What are these discreet codes? Are they codes that offer more compatibility? I have entered codes for my receiver into my RM-AV3000, but it doesn't allow full use of functions (only certain buttons work, others don't). Will discreet codes fix this? HELP!

a discrete code is a direct IR command ie
power is a toggle command -if on will turn off-if off will turn on

a on command is discrete -if on will stay on -if off will turn on

a off command is discrete and so on....

there are no discrete commands in a sony remote except for some sony products
you could learn them from here but you need a remote that will give you that possibility

Your best choice is probably the Radio Shack 15-2104 that is being closed out in the stores for ~$10. It can do many discrete codes out of the box. It is JP1 compatible and with a JP1 cable you can do just about any command.

Start with www.hifi-remote.com for more information.

It will also help if you describe your equipment since we may already know if what you are looking for exists. For example, any Toshiba TV other than recent rear projection systems do not have any discrete commands available. In contrast, almost every Sony device does.

the AV3000 is a learning remote, so it should be able to learn all the commands from the original remote. And you don't need anything else then the original remote.

Since Stephane explained what are discrete codes I will skip that. The reason a lot of us are looking for them is that they make macros more stable. For instance you might want to make a button that turns on the TV, DVD, Receiver and changes all the functions to watch a DVD. If all you have are toggle codes, and you were watching a show before, by pressing the DVD button the TV will be turned off. With discrete codes that is not a problem
