I'm in the market to get DSS, but I'm still not sure if it's going to be Dish Network or DirecTV. One thing that has me voting for DirecTV is there are a couple non-HDTV, non-PVR receivers that have component video outputs (vs. only S-Video). One of these is the Samsung SIR-S75. Does anyone know if this unit has discrete on/off codes? BTW, I've got a TSU2000.

The other reciever I found with component video outputs is the RCA DRD485RG. From the looks of the Discrete Codes file section, RCA DirecTV receivers already have known on/off codes. I guess I just have a thing against RCA (crap?). Any input either way would help!

AFAIK, there is only one Samsung device with a discrete power command the SIR-T160. This is a much discussed topic here and in the AVS Forums.

As far as RCA, I have a DTC-100 (RCA's HD DSS and OTA Receiver)that is very reliable, and AFAIK has more discrtete commands than any others (Antenna A and B, DSS, HD, SD. power etc.).

I also have a Sony DSS receiver that I recently replaced with an ancient RCA DSS receiver to drive my ReplyTV because the Sony was unreliable and the old RCA still works great. So just hide the RCA's in the equipment closet and your friends will never know ;-)

Hehe, good idea, Jon.

That brings me to another question, this time about the RCA receiver (DRD485RG). The specs say it has a UHF/IR remote, but only mentions the IR being there "to control many other devices, such as VCR's, TV's, etc". It makes no mention of the receiver itself responding to anything but the RF. Can anyone verify that it does respond to IR?
