Does anyone know if theses units have discrete on/off commands or can the play command turn on the VCR?

Answered my own queston sort of. I took a MX-700 set up with JVC vcr codes to the local Ultimate Electronics. The models I tested were HR-S5911U, HR-S2901U and the DH30000U. The commands that I tried were discrete ON, OFF, TV, VCR. They all worked fine from the code set "48" and "166" that came with the remote.
