Anybody found Discrete inputs for the Marantz line of plasmas? Celadon RS232 adapters are getting old. Thanks

Marantz actually publishes their commands in a way. If you go to their website and look under the Marantz version of the Pronto they have big ccf files of their current models. You need to download the latest Pronto Edit V4 and open them as a Pronto pro because the files are quite large.

However, I got curious and started looking around and the codes for the Plasma's are not particularly clean and they also have some database comamnds in there.

These codes are consistent with the NEC plasmas for the most part (and NEC plasmas seem inconsistent between models)

Here is what I found:

The database commands and some of the learned Pronto comamnds would lead me to believe that these are proabably really NEC2 variation of hte NEC protocol but it may be NEC1 (or NEC in MakeHex)

These commands can be easily generated by John Fine's MakeHex found in files|Pronto|Utilites or something close to that. The device will be 24, 24.24, or 24.247 as indicated above. The protocol file NEC2.irp that you edit with notepad to selct device and function looks like this:

The only thing to change are these two lines:

Device=24.247
Function=8..8

That is the first command, Power On for the PD-4290D and:

Device=24
Function=85..87

Will get Video 1, 2 and 3; etc.

Thanks for the help. I checked out the default RC5200 file and it lists the discrete inputs for the plasmas. I haven't looked at their stock file for quite some time. I'll try these codes and let everyone know if they work. It's odd that if you open the file and look at the code it says "learned". Usually their codes aren't labeled this way. We'll see what happens.

I think the problem will be that some people can't use those codes directly. Many of them are in a database format that will not work on all Pronto's

For example this is a typical database hex command:

9000 006d 0000 0002 0018 00e7 0008 00f7

It translates to NEC2:24:8 = Power On. The last four bytes are the 32 data bits of the NEC protocol (24, 231, 8, and 247) 231 and 247 are the complements of 24 and 8. If their partiicular version of the Pronto doesn't have the ability to genrate the codes from this shorthand description, then they won't work.

That is why I listed them above in a format that would allow the Pronto hex to be generated in the more universal, longer format with lots of hex.

One other problem that I noticed was in the ccf for the Marantz RC9200 (the Marantz version of the Pronto Pro, I think), that the "power off" commands for:

PD-4292D
PD-4293D
PD-5010D

were garbage. They look like they were an attempted learn from something with bad batteries and I would be surprised if they work as posted.

So although you would think that the "manufacturer" would have perfect codes, these aren't. They probably got them from NEC who is the real manufacturer, from what I can tell. Last I heard, NEC said they didn't exist. Go Figure!

I think you will be more successful by generating the codes with MakeHex, but the published codes may work just fine.

I tried these codes and they worked perfectly even though Marantz told me that they didn't exist several months (and years) ago. I would have liked to have these when the plasmas were first released. The aspect codes for TVs didn't work so now I'll have to search for those. Thanks for the help
