I am using a One for All URC-6011 as a teacher for an MX-500.

I need both an "on" and "off" discrete code for a Pioneer DV-F727 DVD player (301 disc).

If not available would it be possible via JP1? (which I have not plunged into yet).
Thanks - Tom

This is strange....

I was messing around with the OFA 6011 last night and got the Pioneer DV-F727 to recognize a discrete off code. Then I tried the same code again and it didn't work. I tested the same code over and over for about 2 hours getting the DVD player to only occasionally (1 in ~10) times to go off.

Finally I just "tested" the code (035?) into my MX500 a few times until a working version took. Now the MX500 has no problem sending a good discrete off, yet the OFA seems to only periodically get it right. I'm almost 100% sure I'm not typoing THAT frequently on the OFA. Any ideas on what's going on?

I'm sure your setup code uses a two_byte hex command.

When you use the standard method to send an EFC (those three digit codes like 035) on a setup code that uses two_byte hex, the EFC only controls one of the two bytes. The other byte is determined in a complex way by previous actions you've done on the 6011.

It is fairly common to occassionally get the right signal. With a good understanding of the process you could even reliably reproduce the steps to get the remote into the state that will produce the right signal. There's no way to make this practical for actual use of the 6011, but since you only wanted to program the MX500, you got it.

Someone will probably ask, so I'll answer: No you can't get the remote into the right state and then use the 994 command to save the right signal as a key move. Only one byte gets saved and its even harder to get the other byte right from a key move than from the Set-NNN test method.

Perfect!! I couldn't technically explain the situation the way you have, but I suspected something like this was going on. I thought the OFA was messed up.

I was using different methods for turning the DVD player on before testing the 035 EFC code and eventually I stumbled into a situation where I turned it on with the OFA power button and then "set - 035" magically worked.

Now if I could only explain why I was spending 2 hours on this to my wife....
Thanks for the tip!!!

I have the DV-F727 and use a Radio Shack 15-2104. Probably won't help you but using the 0571 device code, 031 is discrete "On" and 035 is discrete "Off". Works great on my MX-500 now.
