My VCR (Panasonic PV-4351) has finally begun to malfunction and I am happy because I can buy a new one and this time I want it with DISCRETE CODES for On and OFF and VIDEO SOURCE INPUTS. Can you helpful people out there please recommend some makes and models? I am also interested in stepping up to an S-Video VCR (with DISCRETES!) are S-Video VCR's worth it?
Thanks, Bill

I am sure that there are others but Sony VCR's generally have discrete input codes and discrete power codes. Some Sony's have multiple video inputs.
I also have a JVC with one video input that has a discrete input and power commands.
If this is an important feature for you, I would buy it from some place like Best Buy so you can easily return it if it doesn't do what you want.
Regarding s-video, I selected the JVC for that reason. They are very reasonable but frankly, given the quality of most video tape, I doubt if you can actually see much difference.
