I am very new to all this, having just got a Marantz RC3200.

I have a great little (and relatively old, 1997) set-up which consists of Sony's SLV-AV100 which was their VCR and Prologic AMP all in one. It's hitched up to a Sony TV via SCART. The remote I have been using is the RMT-V193 that came with the system.

Trouble: The buttons that select the input into the VCR/AMP which are titled VHS LINE/VHS TUNER seem to get learnt by the RC3200, but it won't do the job.

From my limited knowledge I have acquired from this great site, I think these must be discreet codes as they switch everything on when pressed.

Any place I can go to sort this? Otherwise I can't see a lot of point in having it!

Many thanks you pro's!

James,

Most combination devices use standard IR codes that are the same as if the devices were seperate. So I would try some of the discrete commands for the Sony VCR and Sony revceiver and see if they work.

I would also try to learn any command from the VCR and Receiver mode maybe Play and Vol+/- and post those. I will be glad to decode them but make sure that they actually work.

Being from the US, I generally know what a SCART cable is, but I don't know whether it also has a wired link to pass commands back an forth between your TV and VCR/Receiver combo or whether when conncected it may ignore certain IR commands. You might disconnect this to isolate the behavior.

Sony apparently also has a two-way command set that is hard to learn with learning remotes. Then there is a 455KHz protocol for certain units that apparently cannot be learned. I am not saying that either of these are the case but groping for an explanation for why the commands can't be learned. Most Sony commands are easily learned and it is the best understood of the IR protocols.

Having said all that, bad batteries in the OEM remote is probably the number one cause of learning problems.

So I would replace the batteries in the Sony OEM remote, try to learn some commands. Post a few of them or email ne your ccf file and I will be able to give you a more informed answer.

Thanks very much for that Jon. I'll get to work. One thing I have noticed with these two problem codes is that although the RC3200 beeps OK that it has allegedly learnt the info, when I ask to see the code in the set-up program, there isn't any there.

Not sure if that makes a difference, just thought I'd mention it!
