This Receiver doesn't appear on Yamaha's apparently pretty comprehensive site... ([Link: yamaha.com])

It *does* have codes for the 396, but not the 396RDS, a completely different thing.

Does this mean there are *no* discrete codes?

Also, the Yamaha codes don't look anything like the normal hex you'd put into ProntoEdit - what's the deal?

(please forgive the ignorance - I've had a Pronto less than a week...)

Yamaha uses the same commands for most devices of the same type. The listing there are not comprehensive. By all means try the commands. The worst that can happen is that they wont work.

You need to translate those codes into hex format...
the codes into the file section should work on your unit
