I am new to this and just got my MX-500. I really like it. I read a thread that doesnt sound too promising for me, about Toshiba and discrete codes.

Like many people I would like to have a single button to turn off all my components using a discrete code. I got my Yamaha receiver working this way, through a learning function on the main remote.

I have a

Toshiba 65HX81
SD 4700 Toshiba DVD player
DST 3000 STB

Is there anyway, using the MX-500 remote, that I can use a discrete code to turn off all these devices?

Even if I have to buy a computer attachment that is fine, I saw the IR module. Just want to make sure if I buy the PC attachment that Toshiba even has discrete codes.

thanks

Some recent Toshiba RPTV's do respond to discrete power commands [Link: remotecentral.com]

Toshiba DVD's will turn on from off with the Play button so On=Play|Stop and Off=Play|Power toggle.

The STB probably does not have a discrete power command.

To program your MX-500 you will need a One-For-All remote. The URC-8811 and Radio Shack RS15-2116 are the most commonly recommended both about $30. Those have a JP1 connector and can be programmed with a PC to do just about anything if it isn't in the built in library.
