I have a yamaha rx-797 receiver and I'm trying to program my rc71 remote to control. The rx-797 is in the list of receivers that came up when I tried to program it but it doesn't work. Any suggestions?

The rc71 can only control the volume and mute, no power for ANY audio device with that remote. To program the receiver and remote have to be RF mode, the hr44 or c41 no other receive can program that remote. And you HAVE to program the tv first!

After I learned that bit about the TV from edmund, I learned that you don't have to program the remote to control the TV you're using; it just has to think it's controlling some TV before it will accept programming for the audio device. And that bit about RF means the DirecTV remote and receiver have to be in RF mode; the TV and audio control signals will be IR.

A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything. "The biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place." -- G. “Bernie” Shaw |
