Anyone know an easy way to do this?
Client has Samsung UNC65C8000. He uses TV speakers some of time and AVR some of time, so I want to mute the TV when AVR is used. Problem is you get their mute icon on screen all time. Having to do volume down 30x in a macro is a bit of a joke.
Anyone figured out how to remove the icon or set volume to 0 without Vol. Down, Vol Down ...
Alternatively toggle external speaker on/off could be used, but not going thru several menu options

i don' think an IR code exists for this. you can do this with RS232 using the exlink jack.
What i do in a case like this, is put a secondary set of volume commands on the remote, usually on page 2 of the activity that is in use. or if the control system allows, I put a toggle button on it and have the volume buttons toggle between the TV and the AVR.
depending on the AVR, there may be an IR code to enable or disable HDMI passthrough. turn the passthrough on, and you get volume from the TV speakers. turn the passthrough off, and no volume from TV speakers.

I really do have to wonder what drives some people to want to use TV speakers when they have a proper audio system set up.
If he's doing it because he thinks the crummy speakers won't bug anyone else, then maybe another solution is to give him a "nighttime mode" on the AVR, perhaps only in stereo.

Right now the speakers on the AVR aren;t great and his wife doesn;t like the sub on. She doesn't use the AVR at all and thinks TV sounds better

it looks like there may be an RS232 command to enable and disable hdmi audio passthrough to the TV. I don't see an IR code though. any chance you can control the Pioneer with RS232?

The receiver does HDMI passthrough when off, but that still leaves the TV volume on. Yuck. What a mess. I don't know how to do this without RS232 easily. You could write a macro in the system off so that before TV P-Off is fired, a nasty commands of vol- is sent to turn the vol to zero. Alternatively, you could could launch into the service menu of the samsung and set the vol to 1 on turn on. That way the client would have to always turn it up when they wanted TV speakers. Power cycling the TV would reset the value back to 1. It's a nasty work around, but if you are IR driven and this is what the client wants, it'll work. I have personally found setting the turn on volume to zero in the service menu has not worked for me, but setting it to 1 has.

Can you length the time on how long the volume button is pressed? You may need to create two volume codes. One set for the normal everyday volume buttons. Another for the speciality volume buttons. It's not exactly a macro though. The changing of the volume "press down" would be done before putting it into a button/macro.
I am going by a Pronto Pro software, what you have I have no idea. I just know that in the Pronto, you can change how long each button is sent for.

Thanks guys
The service menu thing will probably work. I can create a sequence to press vol 20 times. When they select WatchTV (no speakers). Only issue is if they switch to Wii (for example), still gotta vol back to 1. If they don;t want to spring for a decent control system, I think they're not gonna get much better
