Hi !

I am using a Global Cache controller GC-100 and ADA Cinema Rapture and have been struggling to import the serial codes I have been given by the manufacturer to HEX (CCF) format. I have a spreadsheet of ADA serial codes but unfortunately Global Cache iConvert utility understand only HEX(CCF) format. For example, command "DTS Neo:6 Music" FF,03,00,13,53,69,FF - can anyone explain how to convert this to HEX( CCF) format. Maybe any kind soul have a spreadsheet for ADA Cinema Rapture in HEX (CCF) format ? My e-mail - [email protected]. Thanks in advance!

There is not really a way to convert a serial code (RS232) to an IR Code. They are two different formats, two different protocols. It's like trying to convert from ancient egyptian to english without the rosetta stone. There are devices that take an IR command and convert it to RS232 (serial) like the RCV-5000, but that piece was designed specifically for a particular product.(centralite) I don't know if there devices that take rs232 and convert it to IR.

iConvert and global cache have their own way of displaying IR commands. Commmonly, particularly on this website and others, when you see hex codes or read someone referring to hex codes from a remote, they are talking about codes that are in the pronto hex code format. It is the most ubiquitous and useful. Global cache stores the hex codes in their devices in a different format other than pronto hex. That is what Iconvert does. It takes IR hex codes and converts them back and forth between pronto hex and GC hex. (Thanks global cache and Savant for not using pronto format like the rest of the automation world).

What iconvert WON'T do is convert serial to IR. You have serial commands, in hex format, which is completely different than IR in hex format. I hope this isn't diving too deep. I don't know your baseline. What you need is a spread sheet from the manufacturer with IR hex codes. I have to look up the manual, does this product take IR codes? Some don't!

I would start here:

I realize this is a different model, but right now, what else do you have?

The GC-100 has two serial outputs. Why aren't you using them?

Thank you very much for your answer, Sysintegration!

ADA Cinema Rapture takes IR codes and it has a very uncomfortable remote control. Manufacturer hasn't a spread sheet with Pronto hex codes. Only serial codes and also NEC (but it look unusual). Thank you very much for your link but I need also commands for different sound modes ( DTS, Dolby Prologic etc) and they are not in your link.
In this thread [Link: remotecentral.com] forum member Jasonvp converted JVC RS-232 codes to pronto hex using MakeHex utility but unfortunately there is no ADA IRP file in MakeHex . I thought that it is also possible with my ADA Cinema Rapture's RS-232 codes. I don't use Global Cache's serial outputs because RS-232 protocol looks difficult for me at the moment. Global cache has DB9 connector and ADA Cinema Rapture has RJ-45 connector - I haven't such a cable((( .
Maybe somebody can convert just a few comands to pronto hex format?
Command NEC IR Code (Adress=ADA0 ) ADA serial code

DTS Neo:6 Movie / 68 / FF,03,00,10,4A,5D,FF
DTS Neo:6 Music / 70 / FF,03,00,13,53,69,FF
DOLBY Pro Logic II Music / 77 / FF,03,00,10,52,65,FF
Stereo 5/ 90 / FF,03,00,10,5C,6F,FF

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Can you post the data sheets you've gotten from ADA?

Or can you email or Private message me the link to that spread sheet, please.

In particular, I'd like to see the NEC codes, but also the serial.

A DB9 (serial / rs232 ) to Cat5 converter is easy to find, assuming you know the pin out. However, if you can post or link to the full document you have from ADA, I will see if I can help you generate some codes.

I have no idea if this is right, as I have not seen the document yet.

I am using IRScrutinizer.

[Link: hifi-remote.com]

Assuming, again, raw assumption based on not seeing protocol sheet, that this is an NEC1 protocol.

We convert AD and A0 from hex to decimal.

AD=173
A0=160

We drop this into IR Scrutinizer.

Protocol = NEC 1
D = 173
S=160

Assuming this is correct and those numbers don't need to be swapped:

Function 68 (potentially DTS Neo6 Movie)

Excellent. I received your private message (PM). Based on what I can see, the codes I post above should work. If not, let me know, and we will reverse AD and A0 and regenerate.

In IRScrutinizer, go to the generate tab.

Protocol should be set NEC1

In the D - space put 173

In the S - space put 160

The F - Space will change depending on which code you want to generate.

Referring back to the protocol sheet you sent me, Input #2 is function (F) 6, so 6 would go into the F-Space.

Press generate to get:

Input #2
