Does anyone know if there is a discrete on and off for the Denon DVD2800 Mk2 as the codes for the DVD 3800 don't work ('On' button for 3800 toggles the power on/off on the 2800).

Denon publishes the IR commands for certain (I assume current) models. Both the 2800 and 2800 II have only one power command listed that is the same as the On command for other models.

turning on the DVD is not the problem unfortunately.

I had a 2800 for awhile and used play, delay, stop for on and play, delay, stop, power toggle for off. Not as clean as discretes but works well. the denon site- [Link: usa.denon.com]DWG
