Please help me with a code for a Sony STR-DE598 5.1 receiver.

Can find nothing via google and it says check manual, manual has nothing.

Have it working fine with the DirecTV remote which found it automatically via model#.

Now want it to work with an old Mitsubishi remote (no model# on remote). Remote has new batteries and worked fine on the 5.1 unit it came with 13 yrs ago till that unit just died.

tried these found from various sources:
01
31758
1058
222 (on back of Mitsubishi remote under "AV")

I've been holding down power with Sony receiver on, entering code, releasing power, pressing power to see if unit powers off/on. Correct?

thanks for any help!

Well, the codeset your sony is using didn't exist 13 years ago, so you are out of luck, sorry.

you can switch the sony to codeset that might be in your mitsubishi remote, but then your sony oem remote will not control the sony receiver anymore. And you would have reprogram the Directv remote.

[Link: remotecentral.com]

If you switch, then use code 31058 in the directv remote.

OK, making progress. I do not have Sony remote, neighbor gave me the unit with no remote. it's out of the picture, unless I get one on ebay.

I see 2 options:

1: find a Sony remote on ebay

2: buy a universal remote. Only want on/off and volume, period. ANY RECOMMENDATIONS FOR SOMETHING CHEAP?

Guess I can't use my Sony blue ray or new LG TV remote? can't find way to program them for 2nd AV device.

thanks for the help!

So if the mitsubishi remote has Sony audio codes listed, then you only hope is to switch the sony to AV1 codeset, which the oem remote isn't needed when switching codesets. On the receiver itself:

On the Receiver:

1. Press I/O to turn off the power
2. Then, press I/O while pressing ENTER (On the STR-DA2100ES, press I/O while pressing INPUT MODE)
3. Each time you press I/O the Command Mode switches between AV1 and AV2 (initial factory setting is AV2)

Once it is in Av1 mode, reprogram the directv remote:

1. av1 or av2
2. press and hold MUTE & SELECT, wait for two blinks, release
3. enter 3 1 0 5 8

and try mitsubishi sony codes.

Hi just ran into this same problem. I have the same receiver and a RM-VL1000 Sony universal. It should just work because they are both Sony but they don't. The receiver is 2005 and remote from 2003. I have looked everywhere for codes and nothing worked. As a last resort I tried Peel remote app on my phone, searched receivers under sony, and on the 9th or 10th one it connected. I then set in the receiver model number in the app. Then with the learn feature on the remote set the buttons to the matching ones from the app. It worked! So I don't have the exact code for the receiver I was able to hard code it into the remote, but I had to use the Peel remote app. Hope this helps others.

Sony AV System Remote Control RM-AAU001 is what I have found to be the remote for this receiver, so if anyone knows the code this remote is sending out it should be the correct code to the receiver. Does anyone know this? Thanks!
