This is their replacement for the Scientific Atlanta 8300HD-PVR. Can't seem to find any code listings for this unit.

TIA

Ok, there must be a reason why this is getting no play, maybe no codes for this unit? I'm sure there must be tons of users out there that are using this unit or the previous Scientific Atlanta 8300.

In any case I've read that many people leave these on all the time. I'm not keen on the idea of that so I thought I'd give a little tip to others.

1. Go to the main settings of the 8642HD-PVR (also the 4642HD)
2. Set: Power-On Keys -> Power and Others
3. Since you can program Favorites in your remote remove all favorites from the cable box.
4. Use the FAV button on the remote as your power on key/code.

This obviously does not cover the powering off, but there are things you can do there like including a power off of the cable box when initializing other activities, or just in a 'Power All Off' macro.

If anyone does come up with codes please let me know.

tbolt,

Thanks for this advice. I am programming a brand new URC MX1200 now and was struggling with this. I was going to use if-then statements but that's not as bullet proof. I'll use your suggestion for an 'on' button and then for off, will just use 'on'-pause-power. I'll give it a shot when I get back to programming this remote and let you know how it went. Really appreciate you posting the above!

SA/Cisco has never offered discrete power for their units.

Your work-around will work for now. From my understanding there is a new firmware for the boxes that removes the "Power on with power and keypad" from the menu thus removing the option to power ON the box with the FAV button

Leaving the box on all the time doesn't work either as the boxes have a stand-by setting that takes place between 1-3am where if there is no use the box will go into standby mode.

The only good work around is to have an all ON and all OFF macro. This will ensure that the Rogers box is turned on and off at the proper times. I also include a device power button on the interface for these boxes as a fail safe if for some reason the system gets out of sync.
You can't fix stupid

For those on Videotron that upgraded to their New generation Illico, the 'Fav power' on solution is gone. I put in a strong complaint, but unless complaints come in from 100 000 programmable remote owners we're doomed.

One has to ask what was the logic of removing that 'Fav power' on solution?

BTW, for those who have programmed commercial skips, the timings seem to have changed on the new Illico.

This just seems so ridiculous that there aren't discrete on / off IR codes.

It is so annoying when the TV / Cable box get out of sync!

Unless you NEED to .5v decrease in power consumption that turning the box "off" actually gives you, then there is no point here. There is ZERO reason to fire a power command at any of the modern cable boxes, unless you are trying to turn off the front display because it is keeping you awake at night. The boxes are always on, always spinning their drives, and always talking back home whether moca or otherwise.

If you want to fix your box "getting out of sync," tell me what control system you are using, and we can write some variables or you can take the power command out of your macro because it's doing you absolutely no good.

I mostly agree with your post - but there is an issues that does crop up - namely that the box will auto-turn off if there is no TV present, or if there has been no remote control activity.

Maybe there is a way to disable the auto-power off, and if so, then, yes, I agree, it really is just a matter of removing the off alias from the master off button macro.

I have seen this problem with Verizon boxes often. The verizon onscreen UI, however, has an option to turn off the "sleep timer" for the box. (It's not a sleep timer in the traditional sense that it turns off a system, just the box). Verizon's boxes factory default at 4 hours. I looked up the UI for Rogers cable, but it's a little hard to find. Searching "roger's cable onscreen guide" or something of the sort bring up all the wrong things. Dig deep into the menus of your cable box, I would not be surprised if there is an option in there.
