I have recently had a Linn Knect system installed in my house (if you don't know it is a multi-room control system that allows one to add huge numbers of diverse components and listen to them anywhere). Hence my need for a multi function remote (I have bought an RC5000i).

However, I would love to know how to initiate/replicate the "Do", "What", "Where" commands on the room keypads using the RC5000. The remote that Linn supplied has no such functionality inbuilt.

Also any discrete on/off codes would be outstanding.

Thanks,

Paul.

You may have to check with Linn or the dealer that installed it, to see if the IR codes are available.

If not, you may be able to do it through the serial port, using a Crestron or AMX controller, which could respond to the RC5000's IR commands.

Thanks. I have tried Linn (no reply yet) and the dealer is just as lost as I am. I am getting the dealer to contact Linn in the hope that they may be more responsive to him. I'll post any solution here.

Pardon my ignorance but which serial port are you refering to? The one on the Knect amp?

I'm not that familiar with the components in the Knekt system, but I know there's a serial port somewhere -- maybe on the Linnk. Your dealer, or Linn, should be able to tell you, or if you email me the model numbers in your system (some components may not be visible), I can find out. You can also have your dealer contact me, if you want.

Paul,

Opie's right, all Knekt commands are on the linn remotes. Some older Linn remotes require a label stuck over the bottom left hand section of the remote which will then read 'Knekt' this will then display all the functions you require (Where, ON/OFF,What, ?, DO, Clock and the two function buttions) ready to learn into the RC5000. Any problems drop me a line.

As for discrete codes I haven't found any yet, but if anyone does know of any I would really appreciate their response.

I had a Linn kolector pre amp a Peking tuner, and a Genki CD player on my bench. To the left I had a marantz SR 14 ex that I was programing a RC 5200 for. I noticed that the linn system would respond to the marantz codes (they must use RC-5 codes). If I remember correctly the Marantz discrete inputs worked fine . Volume was backwards up was down and down was up.Let me know how you make out.

I'm also having problems learning the RC codes from my Knekt remote to a learning remote - in my case a Pronto. Could someone please explain why when the remote codes for On/Off, Where, What, Do, ?, etc. are learnt to the Pronto they only work once, erratically, or not at all in some cases.

Many thanks in advance for any advice on this issue.

Best regards,
Chris King.

I found data for a Linn AV5103 in the ThearterTouch files at RC. I haven't checked CCF files for possible other models.

It uses RC-5 protocol with both device 16 and device 23.

RC-5 has a toggle bit, so a simple learned signal won't work if used twice in a row.

Pronto hex has a format for natively expressing RC-5 (rather than as a learned signal) that will generate clean signals with correct toggle bits.

I thought the Pronto would sometimes learn an RC-5 to that form and sometimes to the less effective ordinary learned form.

If you store a ccf file containing your problem learned signals and use the new ccf2efc program and associated decoder DLL (from the Yahoo JP1-KM group), it will show whether those signals are the less effective learned form of RC-5 and what device and function (so they can then easily be changed to the more effective form) or if the signals are something else entirely it will show that and probably decode them.

If you prefer to post a URL for that CCF file, I'll run ccf2efc and tell you how to fix the bad learned signals.

Thanks for the quick detailed response, I'll post the problem codes after the weekend when I have them to hand.

Thanks for all your help guys - Marv has provided the codes that I need.

Again, many thanks for the help provided, a great introduction to the site from my first post.

Cheers,
Chris.
