I have a new VSX-1020 AVR and can't find any setup for my MX-850 for discreet codes. Can anyone help.

Do you have access to update the URC database? The VSX-1020 is there.

I also have a MX-850 and a VSX-820 which I believe has similar IR codes. I updated the URC database and see my receiver listed but none of the codes actually work. I am also following this thread which discusses the VSX-820: [Link: remotecentral.com]

I just now learned that the ones I did get for HDMI1, HDMI2 etc. don't work. The Pioneer remote button for HDMI only cycles through the HDMI inputs.

Why not use Pioneer's documentation for the VSX 520/820/920/1020/1120? I wish I knew what to do with those HEX codes on my MX-850. Does anyone know how to get them into a format for the URC remote?

It is the second one from the left. Then in the Universal Browser, click the hex button. Then past a hex code in the box, then click and drag the "Drag" button over to one of the buttons on your remote. Kind of hard to put in words but this should point you in the right direction. I tried the codes in the document from Pioneer for my VSX-820 and they don't work. Let me know if they work for you.

Just a guess, but I notice that many of the Pioneer hex code listed on this site use leadout values around 3F0 rather than 6D9. 6D9 is correct to meet the Pioneer specification (which is really NEC2 but 40KHz), but since there are many example of Pioneer hex codes with the shorter leadout, I suspect that URC remotes prefer that.
Try changing the highlighted values 0000 0068 0000 0044 0168 00b4 0016 0043 0016 0016 0016 0043 0016 0016 0016 0016 0016 0043 0016 0016 0016 0043 0016 0016 0016 0043 0016 0016 0016 0043 0016 0043 0016 0016 0016 0043 0016 0016 0016 0016 0016 0016 0016 0043 0016 0043 0016 0043 0016 0016 0016 0043 0016 0016 0016 0043 0016 0043 0016 0016 0016 0016 0016 0016 0016 0043 0016 0016 0016 0043 0016 06d9 0168 00b4 0016 0043 0016 0016 0016 0043 0016 0016 0016 0016 0016 0043 0016 0016 0016 0043 0016 0016 0016 0043 0016 0016 0016 0043 0016 0043 0016 0016 0016 0043 0016 0016 0016 0016 0016 0016 0016 0016 0016 0016 0016 0016 0016 0016 0016 0043 0016 0043 0016 0043 0016 0043 0016 0043 0016 0043 0016 0043 0016 0043 0016 0016 0016 0016 0016 06d9

I'm working on corecting the codes at PioneerCustom.com Turns out that for 3 models (520, 820, 920) the timing gap is different. I'll post her as soon as I finish. Maybe this weekend.

I did conquer this remote today! It turns out that somehow "Learned" codes got in the device. I deleted the device and downloaded the codes from the database again and they do work. I can now control the VSX-1020! Thank you all for your responses.

The codes for the 520, 820, & 920 in the URC database work. URC creates their own hex and have the timing gap set properly. If you can update the database the codes are there.

I gave the URC codes another try and some of them work but not all. For example, Vol+ works but Vol- does not. I have most of my remote working now. But not having Vol- sort of sucks. This is for the VSX-820 BTW.
