worked out the problem the UID of the remote had been changed..

The best solution is actually to have the apple tv2 to learn codes from any other remote you have, that also opens up more functions than the original 7 buttons, you het discrete stop, pause, play, and skip and some more to play with.

I took an Squeezebox remote and learned the apple tv2 to use those.
worked like a charm.
Learned my pronto, renamed them in the database, worked fine.

Learning from the original aluminum apple remote gave a very unpredictable result, so why bother.
