Hi everyone, here's a good head scratcher for you! Can I reprogram a remote from a sat. rcvr to work a Motorola cable box? I have an HMRC-5 remote with an HRCE-25 remote extender kit. It consists of a small transmitter that clips/slides on the end of the remote and has an infrared rcvr on the remote end, xmtr on the other, and an RF transmitter built in. This transmits to a small rcvr box with 3 IR blaster LEDs that sits in the room with the eqpt. Pretty standard stuff. Now for the fun part. The extender works great on any remote, IF I hold it up against the remote, and don't want to cut it apart. I use it on my shop TV, slaved from main bsmt tv. Works great as is, assuming I remember to pick up the cable box remote on my way to the shop! I want to reprogram the old sat remote to use Motorola cable box instead of Hughes codes. It would be nice to use the extender on the remote it was made for. If not, I take the band saw and Dremel tool to the extender and make a "universal" (box on TV with better IR rcvr)
Thanks all!

Thanks Edmund, appreciate the reply. Kinda figured the chips used were definite purpose proprietary stuff. Looks like it's soldering iron and Dremel tool time!
BWAHAHAHAHA! Actually, think I'm gonna open up the "clip on" RF xmtr and put in a better IR rcvr so I can hit it w/ the stock cable remote from 10 ft, instead of right up on it. Don't have to go far, shop is only 10 x 12! Maybe I'll post "how-to" if it works. Should be pretty easy. Just hated to toss out a real decent repeater system, and now I actually have a use for it!
Peace, Greg.
