I mostly want the ON/OFF discretes. The standard Sony codes don't work. I don't know what to do with those binary dump deals. I am using an RS 15-2116 to teach my Sony AV3000. Also how do I use the Sony "SYSTEM OFF"

Some of the newer Sony receivers use a different device code out of the box (AV2) that can be switched back to AV1 the legacy code for Sony receivers. Do any of the commands work and if so, what setup code are you using in the 2116?

If all else fails you can always do a simple device upgrade with the JP1 cable and add the newer Sony device code. It is possible that the 2116 has it built in, but I don't know what it is.

Part of the problem is that some of the newer remotes use 2-byte commands (that you don't or shouldn't care about) that won't allow assigning advanced codes without a JP1 cable. This means to get the discrete commands that you seem to want may take a JP1 cable.

If you really want to program your remote to the max, build or buy the JP1 cable and dive in. It is a decision that you won't regret. Then you can program your remote with a PC, save the configuration and forget about learning all those keystrokes and button pushes.
