Is anyone aware of hidden IR codes to enable discreet input switching or power control for the Samsung LTM series of LCD TV’s?

We've approached Samsung and have not been able to reach any solutions; has anybody had better luck? If necessary we’re willing to employ external control solutions such as 5V LED monitors or micro relays to accomplish discrete controllability, however even this seems impossible since every button is a toggle function and the LED indicator lacks consistency.

Any ideas are welcome.

The Samsung LTM is a pretty good LCD TV for the money but you are correct about the toggle buttons and the lack of a workaround for this. Something we have used in the past on Panasonic LCDs for example is to use a "channel up, channel down" sequence followed by the appropriate # of "A/V input" toggles to arrive consistantly at the desired A/V input. Unfortunately on the Samsung, while viewing an A/V input- all channel commands and the 10key pad have no effect. We tried to find sn XGA converter with a tuner built in but unfortunately they all use toggles for A/V selection as well. If you know of one please let me know. Our final solution came in the form of a SVHS VCR with 2 Svideo ins and 1 out. We had discrete commands for channel/power/input so routing the DVD and an auxiliary to the TV through the VCR gave us multiple sources including tuner(VCR's). Yes it's only Svideo quality but, not getting a late night call from an angry client that can't remember which toggled input to watch DVD on is more than worth it.
Hopefully Samsung will come through with discrete codes. I did notice that the LTM series uses the same control code set in all of their recent TVs.
We will probably jump ship to the first brand of larger LCD TVs that gives out discrete codes.
Too bad though, Samsung is designing some great looking product.

Same question about the LTM295W. We are using it with an SVHS VCR, Progressive DVD, and a SIR-TS160 HD tuner, so we need to be able to switch video inputs. We have never had this much difficulty in locating a workaround for a TV. Even tried all 256 function commands from GENIRDB. TV appears to use a NEC256a format but the device code doesn't cancel itself like it should. Found that by pasting the function code part of the hex sequence to the original device code learned into a TSU-6000, we could duplicate all of the factory remote functions and a few others (Power turned on and off faster or slower, no delay etc) but still no discrete control. Does anyone know if the NEC256a is the correct protocol for the LTM series? I will post the Power and TV/Video commands tomorrow.
I am also looking for the discrete power commands for the SIR-TS160.

Why don't you post the Pronto hex for the learned (not generated) Power Toggle and Vol+ and I'll give you an opinion. Better yet, if you have a whole ccf file of the *learned* commands email it to me.

Right now it sounds like Samsung may be using a sub-device code on some commands. NEC256a assumes that the sub-device is always the complement (the binary opposite) of the device that is the classic NEC IR protocol. I assume that is what you meant by not canceling out the device code meaning it was a different sub-device.

Also GenIRDB has a quirk that in order to generate the proper Pronto hex with a partially repeating command (like NEC256a) you need to put a statement under [Key Codes] (assume Power Toggle is Function 18):

Power Toggle=18;18

Rather than:

Power Toggle=18

That the documentation would suggest.

Otherwise it will not generate that last portion of the command that repeats. In NEC256a that portion is just repeating the Lead-In and Lead-Out sequences and there is no data in the repeat frames; hence, called null repeat. But some devices need to see those null repeats to respond properly since they signify that the button is still being held down.

Recently I searched the AVS forums for "discrete" and I think half the hits were people lamenting the fact that no Samsung discretes existed. The sheer volume would lead me to believe that no Samsung discrete power or input commands exist in any of their equipment. But if you have found a sub-device code then by all means test it out. I'll be glad to work with you to get a good file generated in any case.

Here are the learned and "cleaned up" versions of the Power and TV/Video commands from the original remote. Both versions of the command work perfectly when learned into a TSU6000. As for a complete CCF file, haven't had time to generate one yet. We are not using the built-in tuner or speakers only as a monitor. I have tried every anchor sequence possible with the factory remote with no luck. If these commands don't help, I will get a complete CCF file. Thanks very much for the help.

If I "CUT" the last 16 bits of code off and "paste" the last 16 bits of a NEC256a function code from GENIRDB the functions will work. The majority of the functions were ON/OFF toggles of various types (some were instant on, some were instant off, bypassing the TV's "warm-up" period), but I managed to execute every function of the factory remote this way. I went through all 256 commands generated by GENIRDB(I used device code 15), but no luck on any discretes. There were some commands that the TV's IR receiver responded to but they didn't execute any functions. I assume these were only partial commands or service commands of some type. I have a call into Samsung engineering, but still no answers. Thanks again.
