I now have official discrete on/off codes for the Dish Network PVR501/508 receivers. No more work arounds!

On Code:
0000 0048 0035 0000 0017 0165 0017 00a5 0017 00a5 0017 00a5 0017 00a5 0017 00a5 0017 0061 0017 0061 0017 0061 0017 0061 0017 0061 0017 0061 0017 00a5 0017 00a5 0017 00a5 0017 00a5 0017 00a5 0017 0165 0017 00a5 0017 00a5 0017 00a5 0017 00a5 0017 00a5 0017 0061 0017 0061 0017 0061 0017 0061 0017 0061 0017 0061 0017 00a5 0017 00a5 0017 00a5 0017 00a5 0017 00a5 0017 0164 0017 00a5 0017 00a5 0017 00a5 0017 00a5 0017 00a5 0017 0061 0017 0061 0017 0061 0017 0061 0017 0061 0017 0061 0017 00a5 0017 00a5 0017 00a5 0017 00a5 0017 00a5 0017 0164 0017 0165

Off Code:
0000 0048 0035 0000 0017 0165 0017 0061 0017 00a5 0017 00a5 0017 0061 0017 0061 0017 0061 0017 0061 0017 0061 0017 0061 0017 0061 0017 0061 0017 00a5 0017 00a5 0017 00a5 0017 00a5 0017 00a5 0017 0164 0017 0061 0017 00a5 0017 00a5 0017 0061 0017 0061 0017 0061 0017 0061 0017 0061 0017 0061 0017 0061 0017 0061 0017 00a5 0017 00a5 0017 00a5 0017 00a5 0017 00a5 0017 0165 0017 0061 0017 00a5 0017 00a5 0017 0061 0017 0061 0017 0061 0017 0061 0017 0061 0017 0061 0017 0061 0017 0061 0017 00a5 0017 00a5 0017 00a5 0017 00a5 0017 00a5 0017 0164 0017 0165

Thank You! Thank You!

I have Home Theater Master MX-700. For those of us who do not have Pronto, how do I get these???

Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god. They work! jeffcarp, you rock! Where/How did you get these codes?

They worked perfectly on my 501 downstairs (with P167). As soon as my 501 upstairs is done recording NYPD Blue, I'll test them with that receiver (which uses a different remote address).

I'm such a happy camper. Yeah! :-)))

Edit: Works fine with my PVR501 upstairs, too.

FWIW, I took a look at what is different about these commands from the others. This is the older and more common Dishplayer IR protocol that has a carrier frequency of ~58KHz. These commands look like they will be universal commands for all units. So if you have a wired IR distribution system or RF IR repeaters and multiple units I think they will turn all units off.

The second minor and probably inconsequential difference is that the normal commands in this protocol repeat as long as the button is depressed and these appear to have exactly 3 repeats of the same command.

There are 16-bits of data in this protocol: The first 6-bits are the command(000001=On; 100111=Off), 5-bits of unit code, and the final 5-bits that are always all zero's except in the scroll-up and down commands and some of the transport commands in the PVR's.

In the discrete commands, the 5-bits of unit code are all Ones, where normally 00000 is system address 1, 10000 is System address 2, 01000 is System address 3 etc.

This is all based on 0017 00a5 being the Zero and 0017 0061 being the One.

Good find, Jeff.

-Jon

Jon, you're right. I didn't notice it last night. I have a 501 and a 5000 in the same rack (but on different remote addresses). These discrete codes controlled both of them. I wonder if there is any way to deal with this (make the discrete codes IR address specific)?

I'm still very happy to have the discrete codes at all, though.

I have the same problem Andrea - a 6000, 501 and 4900 all in the same location. So, I wonder if changing out the 2nd to last 5 bit sequence with different address code sequences would work to make these codes addressable. I'm going to try it tonight when I get home to see.

If it works the Dishplayer, it'll probably work with RCA & Sony UltimateTv's as well.

No good so far trying to make these codes addressable.

markdl, bummer! I don't know enough about the IR code structure or dish codes to help. But if you come up with something, I'd be happy to test it with my receivers.

Hmmm....I wonder if they will work on my 4000 and DP. I don't care if they turn both on or off at the same time, my Sys-On and Sys-Off macros would do that anyway.

Can anyone confirm whether these codes work with the Bell Expressvu 5100 (the Canadian version of the 501)? I'm hoping to test in the next day or two, but I'm still in the process of rebuilding my computer after some nasty problems with it, so it may be few days before I can try it. If anyone has already proven that these work with a 5100, I'd love to know.

Also, what happens if the unit is recording when these codes are received? Does it ignore them like it ignores the power toggle code? Hopefully it will, since this behavioiur means I can shut my system off without worrying about whether the PVR is recording.

It acts just like it would if you were using the regular power toggle codes. If you are recording and you send the discrete off, you get the live mode prompt, which will time out (and do nothing) after about a minute.

Since I don't have a Pronto, can somebody tell me what the EFC's for the on and off sequences listed above are when you run them though ccf2efc?

Bad news for Canadians - these codes do *not* appear to work with Bell Expressvu 5100s. At least, they don't appear to work with mine. I'd be interested in finding out if they work for anyone else - perhaps I messed up somewhere in my attempt.
