Have you tried the discrete power commands for the regular Mitsubishi VCR found here?
[Link: remotecentral.com]Most manufacturers use the same commands for all units of the same type. Sony TV's from 13" to top of the line Wega's respond to the exact same Power commands. Likewise, most all Mitsubishi TV's use the same commands.
There are, of course, many exceptions, but first try the obvious if you haven't already.
