I've been looking for discrete codes for my philips tv, model 25ps40s.

I've broken down the obvious list fairly well, but nothing obvious has come up.

My list of codes so far:
5000 0073 0000 0001 0000 00xx

0-9 channel 0-9
0c on/off
0d mute
0f exit/status
10 volume +
11 volume -
14 autosound
15 autopicture
1e closed caption
20 channel +
21 channel -
22 previous channel (a/ch)
23 stereo/mono
24 stereo/incredible surround
26 sleep
2a time menu
2e menu
2f time menu
38 AV cycle
3a closed caption
50 arrow up
51 arrow down
52 menu
55 arrow left
56 arrow right
6b red
6c green
6d yellow
6e blue
72 happy (add channel)
73 sad (remove channel)
92 menu

This list is very similar (but not identical) to one I've found here for a 27'' Philips TV, so I'm going to monkey around with those results.

If anyone has actually solved this already, or if this is posted, please let me know.

Thanks,

David

AV1: 5000 0073 0001 0000 0003 0004
CVI: 5000 0073 0001 0000 0000 0039
AV2: 5000 0073 0001 0000 0003 0038
AV3: 5000 0073 0001 0000 0003 0039
AV4: 5000 0073 0001 0000 0003 003A
AV5: 5000 0073 0001 0000 0003 007B

Power:
On
5000 0000 0000 0001 0000 003F
6000 0000 0001 0000 0000 003F

Off
5000 0000 0000 0001 0000 003D
6000 0000 0000 0001 0000 003D

Here is a composite of commands that work in some TV's. It seems as though a number of Philips TV's respond to both RC5 commands and RC6 so I have also included the Power commands for RC6. I would say that few people have gotten discrete power commands to work for Philips. However, I believe that if they exist it will be these commands.

It may be worth experimenting. Some TV's turn on from off if one of the Program or channel buttons is pushed

I tried those guys out last night and no joy.

I've also tried codes up to a7 for the rc5 code set, but I'll try the rest tonight.

There are also a couple of 8000 prefix code sets I'm going to look at, the preinstalled Philips TV code sets 1-3 on the Pronto started with 8000 and worked, but all the power buttons were toggle.

It might be hopeless.

Anyone have any clue if Philips technical specifications for their products are available anywhere on the web?

Later,

David

David,

There are only 128 commands in RC5 so the highest is 7F. If you look at the the inputs most are on device 3 (video) rather than 0 (TV1). In RC6 there will be all 256 commands (00 to FF). The RC6 commands appear to use a combination of device 0 and 3 also.

My other recollection is that it make take a very long buttton press for inputs/discrete commands.

I believe the 8000 commands are for an internal database , so while the 5000, 5001, 6000, and 6001 prefixes can be decoded by inspection, the 8000 commands are more remote specific or I haven't figured them out.

I suspected that the codes might only go up to 7f, but I found a menu at 92 and red-blue at ab through ae.

It's looking like ax is a repetition of 6x. Or maybe the remote isn't actually transmitting what I think it is.

I got inspired last night and decided to see what kinds of codes my RCA universal remote would generate for my Philips tv.

I came across an interesting discrete menu/menu exit set of two codes that pronto gives as:

Menu on

0000 0070 0000 000b 0022 0020 0022 0020 0044 0020 0022 0021 0022 0020 0022 0020 0022 0041 0044 0041 0022 0020 0022 0020 0044 0d51

Menu off

0000 0070 0000 000d 0022 0020 0022 0020 0044 0020 0022 0021 0022 0020 0022 0020 0022 0021 0022 0020 0022 0041 0022 0020 0022 0020 0022 0021 0022 0d30

The rc5 codes were really easy to modify, I'm not sure what I can do with this sort of codes set. My first guess, the fourth word (*2) tells the number of words to follow. Maybe 2x are zeros and 4x are 1's.... I really don't know. The last word seems to have some significance.

Any hints?

David

David,

You are close but RC5 is biphase or Manchester encoding. But to back up, Barry Gordon wrote a piece on decoding Pronto hex [Link: remotecentral.com]

The first 0000 means learned, 0070 is when converted to decimal N, an indicator of IR carrier frequency according to this formula F(in KHz)=1000/(N*.241246) and the next to two byte words (when converted to decimal) are, in order, the number of One time burst pairs and number of Repeat pairs.

Thereafter each 2-byte word is alternating on and off times in order, expressed in wavelength of the IR carrier frequency. So 20 hex means 32*N*.241246 in microseconds. The last word longer because it is the is the gap between frames.

Most IR signals use pulse width modulation (PWM) and the most common, the NEC family of protocols use Zero =(+550uSec On and -550uSec off) and One =(+550 uSec On and -1650 uSec off). RC5 however uses Zero = (+880 uSec -880USec) and One = (-880 uSec +880 uSec) ; i.e., the pulse inverts from one to the other.

Barry's article pretty much explains PWM but here is a further explanation of bi-phase and RC5 encoding [Link: hifi-remote.com]
