I have been trying to find a decent receiver with inputs for audio/video, svideo or digital and descrete codes for easy pronto setup. I like the Sherwood Newcastle, but it doesn't seem to have descrete codes to even select video mode.

Try one of the new Yamaha A/V receivers. They have very, very extensive discrete codes.

Try an Onkyo A/V receiver such as models TX-DS575x, TX-DS595, TX-DS676, or TX-DS696-(newest release which is highly recommended if you are doing your video switching with the receiver). In addition to discrete inputs and on/off these units come with a GREAT all button learning remote that is nice to have for a back up.

Check out the Yamaha RX-V1200. A great bargain for a great product. Discrete codes for EVERYTHING, room for upgrades, ProLogic II - what else could you want?

Dont forget about Kenwood Soveriegn, these receivers do video upconversion from composite to component and S to component eliminating the need for input selection on your display, greatly reducing the amount of time spent searching for codes and increasing the time spent enjoying your system. By the way, if you are looking at Onkyo, find an Integra dealer in your area and go that route. Integra is manufactured by Onkyo and comes with a better warranty. www.integrahometheater.com
