Hi,
I'm about to buy a new 7.1 receiver (my old Sony just died).
In order to simplify life I will choose my new one based on availability of a complete set of discrete codes

Here's what I have:
-Pronto TSU 2000 using ccf files
-functioning discretes for Sony STR-940 5.1 receiver(9 years old) - on, off, input selection, sound fields among others

What I would like to know:
-which brand (pref. Yamaha, Sony, Onkyo, Pioneer, Kenwood) is most "discrete-friendly" with guaranteed discrete codes available? - Hopefully directly from producer website or here on Remote Central
-are new receiver models of Sony still using the same codes as before (as my 9 year old STR-940)? Long shot, but worth checking
-Is there any receiver brand you can reccomend to simplify/eliminate discrete hunting?

thanks in advance
Buxe

Denon's support for discrete's is generally excellent.

No idea about the others.

I can attest that all but the Kenwood will, in general, be discrete code friendly. Sony used to even turn on via input which is even better...not sure about the current ones.

That being said, there are a few times that a curve ball will be thrown your way. For instance yes the brands you listed are a very safe bet for discretes but if you find yourself with one of there HTIB receivers you will be likely out of luck.

It sounds like you are heading in the right direction with making this one of your requirements. Here is a tip...figure out the best receiver that fit your other needs for power, I/O's, features, budget, etc. and then come back with a model number and many of us will be able to tell you for sure.

If you are a DIYer my recommendation would be to look into Yamaha or Pioneer Elite. If you are having a CI install and setup this opens up many more possibilities.

Denon AVR has been very reliable in the control area and I used to install them for many years but was burned one too many times in the 06/07 models and haven't used them since. Others will disagree and say the problems are in the past...this I cannot verify as I don't carry the line anymore.

Thanks for the input.
I am inclining towards Yamaha RX-V861 which I found online as a bargain...

Will the codes for Yamaha RX-V1000 (available in the file area of this site) work on a V861?
If not, can anybody direct me to the right file? I don't need ccf file, as long as I can get the hex codes to paste into each command.

thanks in advance

Buxe,

If you ring up Yamaha support then they will send you a complete list of all the relevant codes (at least they did for me when I rang them re my RX-V563).
