I recently purchased a Philips HTS 3544/37 home theater system and although I’ve been relatively pleased with its performance considering its cost, I have not been able to find the 5-digit code anywhere to program our Directv RC64RB remote control to adjust the volume and power the Philips unit on and off. I have tried multiple codes found in the manual and on the Internet, which a few actually turned the unit off, but none where able to power the unit up, adjust the volume or any other functions. I’ve tried some 9-9-1 code searching but it is a bit unclear which component ID # to use since it is home theater w/DVD, (according to the RC64RB manual: Satellite = 0, TV = 1, VCR/DVD/PVR = 2, Stereo = 3) Thank you most sincerely to anyone who knows the code or could offer some advice on how to solve this one.

If the philips uses two-key power scheme you will not be able to find one code in the directv remote that give you power toggle that philips own remote doesn't even give. And with directv lone power key one of the commands will always be missing.

As for the volume, the volume keys NEVER work initially with ANY audio code in the white remotes, reason is the volume keys won't work at all without a tv code programmed to thwe tv device. Once there is a tv code its volume is now in the way of the audio receiver volume. To remedy that:

With philips code that got you the off command programmed in, and a tv code, your tv code or any, to get the volume:

1. av1 or av2
2. press and hold MUTE & SELECT for two blinks
3. enter 9 9 3
4. press VOL DOWN

If you wish the philips volume in all devices do the following instead:

1. av1 or av2
2. press and hold MUTE & SELECT For two blinks
3. enter 9 9 3
4. press SELECT

Thank you for taking the time to reply. I had indeed set the volume lock before hand using the 2nd ‘9-9-3’ scenario you mentioned but I couldn’t make it control the volume or any of the other Philips home theater functions except for it powering the unit off. We have the same LCD and another HR20 in another room with a Pioneer home theater and everything works fine. Finding the code to control the volume of the Philips unit using the Directv RC64RB remote would be ideal. How does one break it down to find the IR volume signals or code to do this?

Do you have a tv code programmed to the tv device on the white remote? The volume keys won't work at all without one.

I programmed the TV code first. And the white remote's volume buttons operated the TV volume until I set the volume lock (AV1-Mute+Select-9-9-3-Select) to operate the Philips unit.

You can try to searching for the volume commands, then you will know for sure if theres a working code:

with AV receiver on:

1. av1 or av2
2. press and hold MUTE & SELECT for two blinks
3. enter 9 9 1
4. enter 3
5. press and release VOL UP
6. point the remote towards the av receiver and keep pressing & releasing CH UP key, if and when the volume changes
7. press SELECT to lock in code

To get the volume commands and punch it through to other devices:

1. av1 or av2
2. press and hold MUTE & SELECT for two blinks
3. enter 9 9 3
4. press SELECT

I tried searching for the volume command again using this procedure but was unsuccessful (three blinks indicating I had cycled through all the available codes). Am I out of luck or is there something else I can try?

M.D. - Did you ever find a code that worked for the 3544/37? I have one too along with a Philips 42" plasma tv. My wife won't let me connect the home theater system until it's all working properly with the remote... :-)
