If you guys can help me with this one - you're geniuses! This is a little complex, so stay with me.

I have Cox Cable, and their Motorola DCT 6416 DVR. It comes with a remote control that says Cox on it, but it's made by Motorola for the DCT, and is supposed to be 'programmable' - if all you want to do with your TV, for instance, is turn it on or off. So I haven't used it. Instead, I use an oldie-but-goodie that I first got from Cox: an Atlas DVR/PVR 5-Device Remote - and I love it.

The problem started yesterday, when Cox 'updated' it's DCT software. They split the Settings/Menu function in two, using the TWO separate buttons that the Cox remote - but NOT the Atlas remote has. The Atlas has only ONE dual Settings/Menu button. So now, when I press that button, I can only access some useless menu called interactive - and I *can't* access the main 'Quick Settings' menu that lets me turn on and off Closed Captioning, for instance. I just don't have the button.

However, I DO have a few 'empty' buttons on the Atlas that I could program to perform that function - but for that, I need the CODE for the "Setting" (not the Menu) button on the Cox Remote. And of course, Cox Tech Support was reduced to 'Huh? You need What?' comments when I called them to ask for it.

If there is any way you can get me that code - or get me a number to reach someone at Motorola (who makes the remote for Cox - at least tech support knew that much), I would be forever in your debt.

Thank you,

Lisa

You really can not program individual buttons on a remote like that.

There are folks that have written software and provided connection info to remap (customize) and insert individual codes on certaian OEM remotes with basic universal features.

I personally do not have any direct experience with this to say if your remote can work with this or not.

Groovit - that may be true on most remotes, but the Atlas *can* be programmed "like that."

Atlas was kind enough to provide me with the code I use to enter the programming mode and program any button on it to perform any one function on my TV, Cable, DVD, etc. The only thing I need is the code for the 'setting' button on the Cox remote to plug in once I put the Atlas in program mode. I've customized dozens of buttons on it in the last few years.

Thanks for replying, though!

Is it a situation where you "learn" the command into the remote?

I guess what threw me here is that you wanted the "code" which implies to me you wanted a code in something like a Pronto hex format so that you can cut-n-paste into some sort of programming software that would then be downloaded into the remote. I would think if your remote can "learn" the command from the native remote you would already be good to go assuming that you have the native remote for the new box.

I have a good collection of DCT/DCH cleanly generated (well functioning) codes for motorola boxes so perhaps you should clarify by what process you would be getting the code into your remote and in what type of format you would require the code to see if I can help out.

remote?

Yes. You press the Device Key once (in this case, the CBL key). Then you press and hold the Set-up key until the Device Key blinks twice.

Then you press 9-9-4 - the Device Key blinks twice.
Press the Set-up key once.
Press in the 5-digit code (for the cable, it's usually a 3-digit code always followed by -10), then press the button you'd like to assign to that function.
The Device Key will blink twice - and it's done. Press the Device Key as normal, then the button you've programmed, and it should perform the task.

As I said, the Cox/Motorola remote has TWO buttons - Settings AND Menu.

My Atlas has a single button labeled Settings/Menu. Until Cox did the 'upgrade', pressing this button brought up the Quick Settings Menu I want. Now, pressing that button brings up a new, so-called interactive browsing menu I don't want.

That's because during the 'upgrade' Cox decided to actually use both of their remote buttons. The Settings button brings up the menu I want. The Menu button brings up the interactive. I need the 'settings button' code so I can program a blank button on the Atlas to bring up that menu.

The Atlas is also supposed to have a learning mode from the original remote: using 9-7-5 and ultimately holding the two remotes 2 inches from each other so the Alas can learn a particular button without the code - but it's not working at all. I'm going to call Universal on Monday, but I'm going to guess my ancient Atlas may simply not be up to it anymore. That's why I need the actual code - that programming bit still works.

Hope this is finally clear - and thanks for your help and persistance!

I do not think I can help.

I have the actual IR codes in a Pronto hex format, not the proprietory "call" codes for assigning a preprogrammed database IR code to a button.
