I was wondering if their is any way to set a marantz sr4001 to a discrete volume. It's not rs232 controlable, so i doubt it but thought i'd ask.

The full set of available IR codes for each model is documented on the Marantz web site in comprehensive and easy to view chart.

Here is how to interpret the info:

I downloaded the file, and it doesnt list the direct volume as a function at all. but it also doesnt list the sr4002. guess it needs to be updated.

I do not know what happened to the link but I edited it and it should work now.

Perhaps you need to look towords the 232 control or see if the initial volume can be set in the setup menu somehow (like the Denons).

Ok. I wish this receiver was 232 so i could just do that but thats only for the 5000 series players. I'm on the phone with marantz to see if the ir code from the 4002 will work on the 4001. does anyone have that code for the 4002 to set a discrete volume. hex format or an rti library file hopefully...?

Does anyone have the marantz universal remote???
on marantz's website you can download a file for their remotes with all of these codes. i would just need someone to learn it into the rti, or give me the hex string.

What does it provide you with that the already documented codes do not?

BTW... it is similar to a Pronto... download the software, open up the file, find the button that contains the code you want, open up the properties window, find the View IR feature then copy-paste until you click finger gives out. That said, it will be much easier and quicker to follow the method I posted earlier to generate your own list of clean codes. I'll even send you a copy of my code documentation software. You could have the list generated 10-15 minutes (including reading the instructions) after downloading the makehex application from the links in my post on the subject.
It would save you alot of pain and suffering.

If you have viewed the documentation from Marantz and it is not indicated you are SOL on your quest to find this functionality. The Marantz documentation is some of the best around.

the marantz document gives you an 8 digit command number, but i dont know what to do with that.

they do give you a file for their universal remote with all of the ir codes in it, but i dont have the software to open it. The person i spoke to didnt seem to understand what i was saying when i asked if they could look at the file in the software and give me the hex code.

Like I said... download the software from the Marantz site.

Regarding the 8 didgit code... I explained this in detail in the link to my other post that I referred you to earlier in this thread.

I don't mean to be rude but you do not seem to be reading the posts. You are getting answers that will work for you if you persue them. Are you waiting for someone else to figure it out for you or for it to be REALLY easy?

okay, maybe you can help me again. I have the software installed, I opened the file and can open the IR code and look at what i guess to be the hex code. but when i paste it into the RTI library manager and press apply it says "invalid zero-length time detected."

the code that they give for -25db is:
5001 0000 0000 0002 0010 006F 0019 0000

That form of Pronto Hex only works in (some) Prontos. It doesn't work in other systems that can import the more common form of Pronto Hex.

You can convert it to the common form of Pronto Hex using MakeHex.
[Link: hifi-remote.com]

The 5001 means it is RC5x protocol, so use the file RC5x.irp (from MakeHex.zip).

The 0010, 006F and 0019 must be translated to decimal to use with Makehex. For other examples you might use Windows calculator in view/scientific mode to convert hex to decimal. For this example, they are 16, 111, and 25.

In rc5x.irp you need to change the device to 16.111, then save that file, then drag/drop it onto MakeHex.exe, then edit the resulting rc5x.hex file and copy the Pronto Hex under the label for function 25.
