Hi, i have a Creative DDTS-100 but without the remote, and need to use the test function (only available through the remote). I have found a lirc config file
[Link: lirc.sourceforge.net] and would like to know how (if possible) to convert it to ccf.

Thanks in advance /arenx

You're not likely to get an answer from someone who made just two posts in January and none since.

You can use the MakeHex program to generate those signals, using the file nec1.irp with Device=191.68

I may have time tomorrow to give you more details, such as which function is which within the output of MakeHex.

Hi all and Johnsfine,

I stumbled upon this thread because I am also a ddts-100 owner sans remote. I am desperately looking for a solution because there is one function that can only be controlled with the remote and it is the dynamic compression. What can I do? This function is crucial and my ddts is very crippled without it.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you so much.

I looked at that lirc file again. I think the device code is 193.64, not 191.68 as I said in 2008.

That lirc lists a function named "dynamic_mode". That might be the function you want for "dynamic compression". It is function number 79.

Do you have a Pronto, or other remote that can import Pronto Hex, or what?

Device Code: 193.68 Function: 79

Hi John,

Thanks so much for replying.

I am a complete newbie to this remote control stuff - could you guide me through this stuff if you have the time? I would really appreciate it. It is late right now but I will also try to educate myself by googling tomorrow - thank you.

Do you have a universal remote (such as a Pronto) that you are trying to program to control that device? Or are you trying to figure out what universal remote to buy? Or what?

I did a quick check to see if any of the OneForAll remotes can be programmed without a JP1 cable to send those signals. So far as I can tell they can't.

But if you need to buy a universal remote that can generate those signals, buying a JP1 or JP1.3 compatible remote plus the appropriate cable should cost less total than buying a remote (such as a Pronto) that can import the above Pronto Hex. Any remote with compatible cable can be programmed to generate these signals.

If you want more info on JP1 choices and prices, read some things in the JP1 Market Place forum and/or post a question there. If you post a question there, you should both include the fact that you need Nec1 193.68 and include the URL of your post here at RC for reference.

You can buy OneForAll remotes that are compatible with JP1.3 cables in many stores and online sites, but you can only get the JP1.3 cables from a few online vendors, all listed in that forum. You might also select an older remote that needs a JP1 cable.

John,

Thank you so much!!! I will look into this.

I do not have a universal remote, therefore, I am trying to figure out what I should buy. Basically, I am trying to use this DDTS-100 with my Samsung 50 inch plasma. I bought the DDTS-100 from somebody who lost the remote but I still got it because these decoders are so rare. I am planning to hook up my Klipsch ProMedias to this DDTS-100 so I can enjoy my TV experience. So, I basically only need the cheapest remote to perform this function (dynamic compression) - or do you have any suggestions to better this whole situation? Maybe I could get a remote that could operate my TV and this thing? But I am on a very limited budget, being a starving musician!

I looked into Pronto remotes (TSU3000) on Ebay and they ranged around 75 used. I'll see how much these JP1 remotes cost.

Thank you for your patience and I'll post here when I have more questions - you have been so helpful.

I'm sure any JP1 compatible remote with cable would handle your Samsung TV as well as being able to generate all the signals from that LIRC file.

Rob (owner of that JP1 forum) sometimes adds some programming for free to remotes he sells. So if you trusted that the LIRC file is correct, he would be able to program a remote for that before shipping it, so you wouldn't need to buy the cable, just the remote. Having the cable would of course make it easier to correct any mistakes after testing, so you might want the cable anyway.

Hey John,

This guy is selling some remotes and it seems like a decent price:

[Link: hifi-remote.com]

My first question is: Are all OneForAll remotes considered JP1? EDIT: AFTER READING MORE, I HAVE FOUND OUT THAT THE ANSWER IS NO - Not all One For All remotes are Jp1/.2/.3.

It looks like the cheapest JP1 or JP1.3 remote would be around 10-15 dollars? Then the cable...

As far as being certain about the LIRC file, I have no clue about it. I am only relying on what you have told me so I guess I trust it =) But, like you said, the cable seems like a good investment.

I am trying to read up on this stuff and haven't found a solid FAQ.

Is JP1.3 just a newer version of JP1, right? What is exactly the difference and are people trying to get rid of JP1s for specific reasons (becoming obselete?)

Sorry about the amateur questions -thank you.

I don't think a JP1 remote with JP1 cable is close to obsolete. They can be programmed with any IR signals supported by universal remotes. The built in libraries (that can be selected without the cable) on JP1 remotes may be getting obsolete. But with the cable, that doesn't matter.

Ordinary JP1 cables need a standard parallel port, which is getting more and more rare on modern computers. There is a USB version of the JP1 cable, that I think is more expensive than the parallel port version. (You cannot combine a USB to parallel port adapter plus parallel port JP1 cable. The parallel port JP1 cable connects only to a real parallel port. If you need to use USB, you need the USB version of the JP1 cable).

I think the JP1.3 cables (compatible with both JP1.2 and JP1.3 remotes) are all USB. The JP1.2 and JP1.3 remotes are not compatible with JP1 cables nor are the JP1 remotes compatible with JP1.1 or higher cables. You're unlikely to see any JP1.1 remotes (JP1 and JP1.1 are different). Older JP1.2 cables are compatible with both JP1.1 and JP1.2 remotes but not JP1.3. The commonly available items are JP1, JP1.2 and JP1.3 remotes as well as JP1 and JP1.3 cables.

As for the LIRC file, I'm confident despite the error I made in this thread in 2008, that I can read that LIRC file and tell you how to program any JP1 or JP1.3 remote to generate the signals in that file. But as for whether the signals in that file match your device, I know nothing other than what others have posted in this thread.

There are also a few models, such as 8910 and 9910, that can be upgraded by a sound played through cheap external PC speakers (expensive speakers may not work) so no cable is needed. That upgrade is trickier than using a cable, so a cable may be worth it. Also those remotes are only available used and the upgrade receiver is the first part to break. Someone selling an 8910 that he thinks works might not even be aware that the upgrade receiver inside it is broken. So buying a used 8910 may be the lowest cost alternative, but I'm not sure it is a good idea.

Hey Johnsfine,
I'm in the same predicament as xiaobao12.  I have ddts-100 and I have searched my house for hours and can't find it but if I could get the codees into my HRC MX-800 my problen is solved.
I I gave my original MX-800 installer this thread would that be the info he would need to program my mx-800 to control the ddst-100?

I don't have time to take a serious look at this now. But it should be fairly easy for any IR expert to make a CCF file. Then IIRC the MX-800 software can drag/drop signals from a CCF file.

Do you need the installer to help? Or do you know the basics of running the software for editing the MX-800 configuration?

I'll try to find some time within a few days to look into the harder part, making the CCF. But it shouldn't be hard enough to really need my attention.
