I am overwhelmed by the information on this site. And after setting up my first home theater in 2002 (with great help from this site), I can't believe that all manufacturers products don't come with discrete on/off buttons right out of the box.

Anyway, my first bit of HT equipment has died and I replaced it with the Pioneer 400V DVD player. I don't have a Pronto remote control. I use a MX-500 (bought about 5 years ago with help from this site and I love it). When I was first programming my MX-500, in order to get discrete codes I bought a One For All Universal Remote (I think model # started with 8 -- it's at my house and I'm at work right now). Anyway, I was able to program something into my One For All remote and then was able to learn that to the MX-500.

So, I was hoping that someone could tell me how to program the on/off discrete functions for the Pioneer 400V without using the Pronto remote.

Thanks in advance.

There is a discrete Off available in a URC file and a Pronto file but how will you get that to your MX-500?
Go here - [Link: pioneerelectronics.com]
and use the DV-46 or DV-48 files.
There is no discrete On command but Play will turn the DV-400 on.

I don't have experience with RTI programming but I have been told that Pronto hex can be pasted as a working command. You have to open a ccf file in ProntoEdit, get to the IR view then copy the hex.
Again, for the past two years, there has been no discrete On; only Off. However Play will turn the DVD players On.

Some Pioneer discrete codes can be programmed on some OneForAll models without a JP1 cable. (It's always easier with a JP1 cable). If you tell me which OFA model and which Pioneer Discrete codes, I can tell you how/whether you can do them without a JP1 cable or whether you need the cable.

I tried following those instructions, but didn't know the steps in between that link and the models you mentioned.

I found the DV-46AV codes. Those include
Standby/On = A3 99 - AF BC
OFF = A3 99 - AF BB
Play = A3 9E
Is that the code set you meant?

Marshall, if you found the discrete codes you want in Pronto Hex, or in the format I gave here, please either quote them in one of those two formats or provide a direct link. I can translate to OFA codes, but I need to know what I'm translating from.

The codes from the DVD-393 will work for the DV400, but you will need to use play for on along with the discrete off. These codes are in the universal browser.

Not for an MX-500

Sorry I was directing the cut & paste info for the RTI that Pesci is using.
I should use names when responding as threads do tend to wander.
