I'm using an MX900, imported these
pronto hex codes with the universal browser.

My first guess is a bug in the Universal Browser import code.

We (a few of the experts here) have a very good understanding of the structure of these Denon codes and a lot of confidence that MakeHex is duplicating that structure.

I meant to bring my Pronto for this purpose, but unfortunately
did not. I learned them in with the MX900 so I don't have
access to the pronto hex. Next chance I'll get I'll learn
these in and post.

I think it would be most informative to learn some codes from the MX900 to the Pronto.

Learn MX900 learned codes to the Pronto and also learn MX900 imported codes to the Pronto. The learned codes would tell us if there is something about the denon signals for this model different from our usual understanding of Denon Kaseikyo signals. The imported signals would tell us if some bug in Universal Browser import is systematically distorting the results.

I second this!

I often (as John has done MANY times) will request that someone send or post the learned codes or codes in question to help solve a posted problem for the greater good of the community. Unfortunately, only one person has ever followed through and done this per my request.

Well... I was informed that the codes are supposed to work with the firmware upgrade. Based on the operation of other Denon code sets that I have experienced I would assume that there is some other issue as John has suggested. if you can post some codes we may be able to tell.

Chuck Miller was very helpful with figuring this out. He even tested with an MX900 remote and MRF350 and confirmed that it works flawlessly. Apparently the S302 somehow got into demo mode which will cause the 0db level with the play command. I believe the documentation was a little incorrect about how to initialize the unit after the firmware update. So I must still be on the old firmware which may be why the codes are sporadic. I'm going back out to the job site next week with a little more documentation and knowledge about this product so hopefully I won't have any issues with the codes after I've initialized the new firmware. I'll report back.
Again, thank you all for your support. It is greatly appreciated. And John thanks for all your efforts in these forums. Makehex is a great tool and your posts have educated me a lot about IR.

Thanks!

So I tried one more time with the CORRECT documentation from Denon. The first document told me how to get do a microprocessor reset but instead was the instructions to put it in Demo mode. LOL
I am at the latest firmware, I believe I have generated the correct codes, but it is still very sporadic. The MX900 editor is updated. URC rolled out new firmware updates last week. I unfortunately didn't have my pronto to learn the imported codes from the MX900, but I did have a Speakercraft LTM 1.0 (Learn/Test Module). Below are the codes I'd like to work with in 3 forms. If anyone can look at these codes to determine what might be going on, maybe the MX900 is at fault? I just find it extremely weird how all the codes learned from the factory remote work flawlessly the first time, everytime, and the generated codes do not.

Thanks again to everyone for all your help.

Those three versions are close enough to being the same that a typical IR receiver wouldn't care about the difference.

So most likely something else is wrong other than the programming of the signals into the MX900. Maybe something about distance or angle or IR signal strength, etc. I don't have much understanding of the physical layout.

But in case the issue is something about the signals (maybe this IR receiver is unusually picky) I can say some things about the small differences between those signals.

But first, I don't understand the source of the signals "as learned from MX900". To understand those signals I need to know how each got into the MX900 (universal browser or learning from the original remote).

In your set of "as learned from MX900" I see the Play signal has different timing from the others. If that is just a learning glitch, whatever you used to learn it isn't as good as a typical learning system. But if the difference was caused by using a learned Play signal in the MX900 to generate that relearned signal vs. all the others imported by universal browser, then we may be seeing a significant difference worth precompensating in the .irp file.

I can't compute an exact precompensation amount from one sample, but I shouldn't need to. The precompensation is small and any error in it even smaller. I don't think a change this small would even matter to the final IR receiver. But if the Play signal you used in the MX900 was learned and the others imported, this adjustment is probably worth trying:
In the .irp file increase the frequency to 38740 and decrease the time base to 411.

Thanks John for looking into that and giving me some direction with possible fixes. I'm going to chalk this up to just being a finicky unit. The codes "As learned from MX900" are codes imported using the universal browser for the discretes and using the factory remote learned codes for everything else.

I'm going to pull another from my inventory and test it on the bench. Probably should have done this from the getgo.
As always, your help is much appreciated.
Thanks,
- Matt

I try and do this even for the gear I am familiar with!

I've got it on the bench and the above codes generated by makehex worked great. I must have a bad unit in the field.

In case Denon sends out the wrong documentation to others, here are some specifics.

Demo Mode = Remove power from unit. While simultaneously holding the on/standby and open/close buttons re-insert power plug into wall. Demo Mode will flash on screen

Microprocessor Reset/Initialize = Make sure unit is in Standby mode. Simultaneously press Function and Skip_Reverse buttons and press the ON/Standby button. Continue to hold while LCD flashes four times, release buttons and Initialize will be displayed on the front.

Thanks John, tgrugett, and Groovit for all your help.
