I have the documentation from Denon on these and they have asked me to decifer and generate pronto hex for the discretes (they do exist). The documentation is ridiculous and iIhave not had a spare moment to do this. I will try and get this together for you and post the results but it may be a week with my christmas job rush right now.

This is the same thing I submitted to Chuck Miller at Denon this evening.

If I am interpreting the documentation correctly for the 301 these should be the discrete power codes in pronto hex form.

The documentation is less than clear but my past experience with the Kaseikyo protocol leads me to believe that the binary/hex of Genre 1 and Genre 2 form the whole number and tenths decimal of the device code respectively and that the data code is representative of the function number.

That is correct for all Denon Kaseikyo signals that I have seen. I'm pretty sure it will continue to be correct.

I don't recall seeing any Denon Kaseikyo documentation in which Genre1 had a value of 5. But you obviously have access to a lot more Denon documentation than I have seen.

I'm sure you understand that the Genre2 value often, but not always, encodes the zone selection. So the same signal with a different Genre2 value is the same function for a different zone. If that applied to the signals you were discussing in this thread, I expect you would have mentioned it (so I guess the On and Off you are taking about are for a whole device, rather than a main zone).

That was true for the first run of Kaseikyo Codes but the 08 models have expanded the use of this protocol for newer functions, duplication of older functions and for the new ID settings (there are four possible ID sets for use with multiple like devices).
The zones, internal inputs (tuner, XM, network...) and ID sets are all organized by device numbers with loosely adherance to Genre 1 and Genre 2 designations.
I can send you any of the documentation if you would like to check it out.

Just a heads up on these codes I posted...

...just got word from Denon that the documentation they supplied was incorrect.

I am awaiting the corrected document.

Have these codes surfaced? The documentation dated on Denon's website says January 08
[Link: usa.denon.com]

I'm having trouble generating these codes for makehex.
I've figured out in the past how to generate kaseikyo codes for the AVRXX08 receivers but the documentation for this model looks different. Maybe its not and I just need someone to connect the dots for me.

Are the device codes 5.1, 5.2, 5.3, & 5.4 used
and to determine the function number I take the data code hex and convert to decimal?
so Aux 1 would be device id 5.2 function #136

0000 0070 0000 0032 0080 0040 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0ACE

can someone confirm if I am doing this correctly?
Thanks in advance

According to the documentation...

AUX1:
Genre1=5H (5hex)=decimal 5
Genre2=2H (2hex)=decimal 2
Function=088H (088hex)=136

It looks correct to me. I will have to look at this document and compare it to the prerelease version I have to see if they have changed it yet. I was told the original was wrong.

Well these codes work but are horribly inconsistent. 1 out of 10 presses with just IR out of the remote would work with these codes. I'm using an MX900, imported these pronto hex codes with the universal browser. I've tried it without and with an MRF350, with an IR blaster, mono-to-mono into the back, and a regular emitter with many different placements and IR output levels. I just cannot get this to work consistently. One thing to be said about this S302... What a piece of S***!

You must be at the latest firmware for these codes to work. GEN862707 is the firmware I obtained from Denon to allow these codes to work. I was told the firmware isn't available yet via download over the net.

The codes generated by makehex are just not reliable, some of the codes aren't even correct in the documentation. The learned codes from the remote work perfectly fine. After doing the firmware update on the s302 I've found that the Play command will not only turn the unit on like before but it sets the volume level to 0db. WTF!
Now my discrete power doesn't work well at all and now I can't even use the play to turn it on. Downgrade the firmware? I don't even know if its possible.

I'll ask Chuck Miller at Denon about this. It may be a documentation issue, however, try direct line of sight from the remote to eliminate the codes as an issue.

If you want to learn a few of the codes from the remote and send them to me I will take a look at them to see what may be up and compare them to the documentation.

I meant to bring my Pronto for this purpose, but unfortunately did not. I learned them in with the MX900 so I don't have access to the pronto hex. Next chance I'll get I'll learn these in and post. I appreciate your help in this matter Groovit, and as well.. for a 2.1 system, the s302 actually doesn't sound that bad. So I take the POS comment back, but would like to see Denon resolve these issues quickly, the piece has been on the market now for 5 months.

Thanks!! :)

Despite documentation errors, Denon codes are usually rock solid.
