I'm in the process of finishing up my pronto ccf file for my system, and i'd love to know if anyone has found any discrete (or toggle) to switch from normal to 16x9 enhanced mode on the KV??FS tv's

As is, it's a 10 step macro going through the menu system.

I've tried all the discrete's i found for Sony TV's that sounded vaguely like they might be it.

Anyone have any pointers? Is there even a way to figure out if one exists?

Here is an excerpt from a message over on a similar topic from the OFA remote group from rhm5757 on 09/10/02. rhm5757 also has a website with a large collection of Sony commands and I think he is pretty knowledgeable about the subject.

"I'm pretty sure that it (a 16x9 discrete mode command) was simply not programmed into U.S. TV's chips. My TV doesn't support the Video 4 discrete either. (model KV-27FS13) The European 16:9 code is the same as the "Wide Mode" button on all Sony HDTV remotes, which toggles between several modes for displaying various aspect ratios on either 4:3 or 16:9 screens."

Here it is the link. You will need a program found in utilities written by Joh Fine called MakeHex to convert this information to Pronto hex if the device number is <32 then Sony12 protocol if >=32 use Sony15.

If it is a device like 26.73 that is the Sony20 protocol used mostly on DVD's to get the device number needed by MakeHex multiply the second number by 32 and add to the first number (26+73*32)=2362

king88,

I've managed to hack out Normal and Wide Zoom discreet codes for my Sony KP-51WS500. I'm still working on breaking out code for Full and Zoom. I just cracked these tonight, so hopefully I'll have the others in the next couple of days. Let me know if these work for you, I'm curious if they work for all sony's.

Normal:
0000 0067 0020 0000 0060 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0030 043d 0060 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018

Wide Zoom:
0000 0067 0020 0000 0060 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0030 043d 0060 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018

Nuance,

Do you live in the US? I think those keys only work on European/UK models.

I live in the US and have the US version of the TV. Those codes DO work on my TV, however I've been unsuccesful in getting Full and Wide to work.. but right now I'm using a two button macro for full (discrete normal --> Vid Mode key) and three button for Zoom (normal --> vid mode --> vid mode). I just bought this TV less than a week ago though... maybe that has something to do with it.

Nuance,

Thanks, you have helped clarify a discussion on another newsgroup. BTW, if you haven't seen it, you may want to look at the website that I mentioned a few posts above and if you don't know it already, how to convert true device and command codes into Pronto hex using MakeHex.

BTW, the codes you posted above were for Sony15:Device=164, commands 49 and 66 respectively as you probably already know.

Hey Jon,

I've played with MakeHex before; it's a handy little program. The problem with it is though, is that it sets the frequency hex value (the 2nd in the preamble as I'm sure you know already) to 0068 and it should be 0067 for Sony's. Also, it always uses the repeat codes (Burst pair sequence 2) and there have been times when that wouldn't work for me, even though it should and just manually creating the hex and using Burst sequence 1 did. SO, I've sort of created my own little utility that I like to use to create the Hex codes based on device and function and if it needs to be Repeat or not (i.e. Vol and Ch instead of say Wide Modes).
