I'm looking for any type of IR codes (Pronto/omniremote/etc) for the Yamaha GX-70 shelf system. Even if you only have the codes for the volume I would be extremelly happy since I lost the remote and therefore I can't control anything.
Thanks for your help
Cat

PS: I've tried converting a bunch of Yamaha receivers/cd player/etc files from the file repository to be able to control at least the volume, but I had no luck. Any ideas on which equipment might use the same codes as mine?

Here are three sets of Power, Vol+, Vol- commands generated in MakeHex. They are all the non repeating NEC protocol.

Let me know which works and I can tell you how to get the rest of the codes.

First, let me thank you for replying to my post (I've had very little luck on this subject). I got very exited when I saw your reply but, unfortunately none of the codes worked for me. Since I'm new to this PDA remote business, I'll enumerate the things I did in case you can spot some mistake. I'm using a Palm m500 with Omniremote Pro v2.02, in order to get the codes you gave me I cut and pasted them on ORDesktop v1.0.3.7 and then I upload the template to my PDA. I believe ORDesktop is recognizing the codes fine, sionce when I pasted them they got converted to an eight digit notation. For example this entry

Device Code: 122 Function: 31 Power
0000 006D 0022 0002 0157 00AC 0015 0015 0015 0040 0015 0015 0015 0040 0015 0040 0015 0040 0015 0040 0015 0015 0015 0040 0015 0015 0015 0040 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0040 0015 0040 0015 0040 0015 0040 0015 0040 0015 0040 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0040 0015 0040 0015 0040 0015 0689 0157 0056 0015 0E94

became this (I skipped "Device Code: 122 Function: 31 Power")

00012918 FFFFFFFF FFFFFFFF F0000000 03C3C003 C3C003C0
03C003C0 03C3C003 C3C003C3 C3C3C3C0 03C003C0 03C003C0
03C003C3 C3C3C3C3 C3C3C3C0 03C003C0 03C00000 00000000
00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000
00000000 00000000 000000FF FFFFFFFF FFFFFFF0 00078000
00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000
00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000
00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000
00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000

I did this with the four power codes you gave me and none of them worked. For some reason after adding pasting the IR code in ORDesktop the buttons became "Trained repeating" which I assumed means that they are repeating codes. I tried them as "Trained repeating" and just as "Trained" but it didn't make a difference.
Any idea on what can be the problem? Are you assuming that my system is using a NEC chipset? Where did you get the codes from? Do you think that it might be a problem with the PDA?
Thanks for your help

Cat,

Comments below:

>For some reason after adding pasting the IR code in ORDesktop the buttons became "Trained repeating" which I assumed means that they are repeating codes. I tried them as "Trained repeating" and just as "Trained" but it didn't make a difference.<

When I said non-repeating NEC code, I meant that the data portion was not repeated it just repeats a Lead-in and Lead-Out. So I am sure your PDA program spotted the Pronto code that does have that repeating sequencce. I do not think that is the problem since it rarely is for On or Off.

I gave you the commands for the Tuner (device 126)and Receiver (device 122) codes and one other device that I thought was be a mini-system (device 209).

>Any idea on what can be the problem? Are you assuming that my system is using a NEC chipset? <

I think the encoding scheme originally came for a NEC chipset but it has been widely used and is probably the most common IR protocol around. I am sure that the protocol that I used is the one that Yamaha normally uses for its audio equipment. The problem we have is we don't know what device code they used. The command is probably 31

It is always possible that Yamaha had some other manufacturer make the system and just labeled it. I have seen Sharp DVD's that use a code similar to Panasonic even though Sharp normally has a very distinctive IR protocol.

>Where did you get the codes from?<

I came up with the codes from decoding some IR libraries from searching the web. BTW, Yamaha now posts IR codes for some of the newer equipment. Why don't you email them and ask what they are. If they send you something I can probably translate it into Pronto Hex for you.

>Do you think that it might be a problem with the PDA?<

If the PDA is just using an IRDA port it has always been my understanding that they either don't work with regular IR commands or have extremely limited range. I didn't look into the hardware that you were using and there are add-on devices that have a more conventional (to remote controls) IR emitter that you may be using. Have you tried using a universal remote?

Do you think that yamaha uses standar codes for all their models? I have tried using codes for several devices with no luck.

Below I'm writing some answer to your questions, thanks for your help

I'll try emailing them, I looked on their site but they only provide codes for some devices, specially the high end ones (not for the cheap like mine :(

I know the PDA works fine, since I can control other devices but I don't know if Yamaha uses some standard that is not compatible with the rest (and thus is preventing me from controling the GX-70. I have tried also with some low-end universal remotes that I have but they don't support my system either

Here are some more codes to try. These are all power toggle codes but sometimes they may be either Off or On so try both possibilities.

Yamaha uses pretty standard commands but we have already tried those. These are less standard and two other manufacturers that are known to have made Yamaha audio devices (Sharp and JVC)

Arrrggg I tried all your codes and no luck (tried with the system being on and off). I also downloaded the RAV2000 ir codes bank, but they don't include minisystems on their codes (they shoot only for highend equipment). Do you have any suggestion on which on/off code should I try? (I mean CD/Tape/DSP/etc). I have also been looking for the same model I have but manufactured under a different brand and I found nothing (I doubt I'll find anything since the GX-70 has active servor technoogy which I have only seen on Yamaha). You might be right in that the manufacturing was done by sharp or JVC but I haven't found any evidence.
Any other ideas or things to try?
Thanks

Cat,

I am kind of out of ideas. Maybe look on eBay for an OEM remote. Ask around in other newsgroups if someone has a universal remote setup code for your model or someone with a pronto will learn the commands and send you a ccf file.

There are some websites that sell used OEM remotes.

Finally, keep bugging Yamaha for the codes.

Jon: Thanks for all your help. I have already been emailing people I find on ebay buying or selling gx-70's to try to get a hold of those codes. I'll keep on trying and I'll post my results in here if I'm succesfull
Thanks
