I am wondering if there is emulation software out there for the PC that I could program some discrete codes in. I can't seem to find any. Basically this is what I want to do:

I want to get some discrete codes (mainly the video input, and on/off) for my panasonic HDTV programmed into my MX-500.

However since the MX-500 doesn't have support for downloading discrete codes, I would have to have something for it to learn from. Since the discrete codes aren't on the original remote that presents a problem. I see that some people have posted some codes for my tv and the functions that I want, however obviously these don't work in my remote.

I wouldn't mind buying another remote, but I like the one that I have. I don't care too much for a touch screen but those seem to be the only ones that are versatile enough to do that. I suppose I could buy a touch screen remote just so that I could program that and then learn it to my MX-500, but that seems like a waste. I looked into the new MX-700 that is similar to the MX-500 but with a PC interface, but it doesn't look like it supports discrete programming either. Any suggestions welcome.

Check out the One-For-All remotes. They do discrete codes and much more. There is a cable (JP-1) that can interface many OFA remotes to a PC in order to program basic functions and additional capabilites. The unofficial website is:

Awesome. I do have a cinema 7 (urc-7800) laying around since that was my old remote that didn't have enough memory before I got the mx-500. I have gotten the discrete on and off to work on my panasonic TV just fine, however I am looking for ones for the video inputs (video 1 and component 1). If you can be of any assistance I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks!

For 180 I get video 4, not component 1. Does it matter on the model? I have a 36HX42...

There is a current thread on this topic in the OFA remotes section with people that have Panasonic HDTV's.

[Link: remotecentral.com]

Keep in mind there are only 256 EFC's =Advanced codes.
If an EFC is above 255 just keep subracting 256 until it is below 256. I notice over there they arre refering to EFC 692 and that is the same as 692-(2*256)=180
