My new 337H LCD TV from Olivia (syntax-brillian) does not allow you to go directly to a "source" such as hdmi, s-video, component, etc. You just have click through them. So obviously this is a problem when trying to program my mx-800.

So, my solution is to use WinLirc to wait for an IR press and then launch a program that echo's RS232 commands out the serial port to the control port on the LCD TV. The discrete codes are listed here (for RS232):

However , one problem

1) There is no specifics on the cable to use - I know it is 8 pin din male to 9 dsub female - not sure of the wiring though

I need to get past that to even try this. I can't even find the cable anywhere.

I didn't know where else to post this. Any help is appreciated. This solution sounds a lot cheaper than buying the Xantech stuff people post about - but need some cabling help or assistance from someone who has done this with a projector or lcd tv.

You can buy the cable from Olevia. You have to call them and order it. It's like 30 bucks. Don't try to make your own and guess at the wiring. I did and it killed the power supply and motherboard. Luckily I was still under warranty and they sent me free replacemaents. I have a 542i. I'm not having much luck getting the 232 to do anything though. I'm trying to use it with a Crestron system. :)

Here is a link to the pinout for this device. This illustration is from the perspective of looking at the pin side of the connector, not the solder cup perspective. Also, I have had no success in controlling this device using the RS-232 commands.

The only codes that seem to work are the input commands (the 2 byte codes). None of the longer codes work, and Olevia does not seem to be interested in fixing this. At least I can use a combination of IR and RS232 (and a current sensor) to provide integrated control...

I replied to several personal emails from 'Brian', and I thought the information might be helpful to someone else on this forum:

Try this:

I actually got it to work from ComPort Toolkit first…mostly because you can enter a delay between strings (you can’t do that in the Crestron Viewport [that I know of]). You need to be able to quickly change settings during testing, and the program/compile/upload method is pretty 20th Century. That’s why I moved to the XSYS system after 18 years of Crestron and AMX programming.

Good luck,

If you got it to work, could you please tell me exactly how you did it? I haven't been able to get it to work with delays and I have been trying this for months. Olevia has not been helpful. I am using a 226V and the hex code for off is...

BE 05 27 00 EA

How did you turn off the tv with that in comport toolkit? What time delay? I tried stuff like this with visual basic:

50 BE (Delay 10 ms) 50 05 (Delay 10 ms) 50 27 (Delay 10 ms) 50 00 (Delay 10 ms) 50 EA (Delay 10 ms)

And nothing worked, that does give input to my pc in a funny way. But I can't tell how else to turn off the tv. I can get it to turn on, just nothing else! Help is very appreciated.

How did you buy the cable from Olevia. They claim to not, nor to have ever had, a cable available:

"Thank you for writing to us. My name is Sofea Alea and I apologize for
the inconvenience, but we are not able to assist as we do not have the
RS-232 cable for (mini-din to db9) in our Accessories List."
