Power on and power off codes needed. The codes that came with the remote doesn't work with these models.

Do you mean that the Power commands on your original remote don't work? Or, do you have some sort of universal remote that has a built in library and while it controls some functions it won't control power.

If it is the latter, what kind of remote and what setup code(s) work for some of the commands. If you have a Pronto it looks like someone has already solved this problem for a SR-4000.

[Link: remotecentral.com] from the description:

"The Marantz SR-4000 requires a two second push and hold of the Input and Standby (off) buttons. In this ccf, the process has been eliminated with macros. Anyone wishing to study the technique of programming sustained bursts of IR should download this file and explore it and its accompanying read me file."

Just found the SR-4200 codes (same as the 5200/6200/7200 codes)! But still looking for DVDR-980...

Jon: I meant the original Philips codes that comes with Pronto. With SR-4200 some of the commands, like mute and menu, worked, but most of them didn't. With DVDR-980 nothing works...

Here is one of the two DVDR ccf files decoded. These are very short because it is the Philips RC6 protocol and they have a toggle bit that makes them very hard to learn and get reliable results. The last two commands were not in the file but they are likely to be the discrete power commands.

Bugger, didn't work. Those last two lines had the same effect than the original power button. I think we might have another TOAD here...

Did you try the fairly universal DVD work-around. Play usually will turn the unit on from Off. So Play/Stop=On and Play/Power Toggle=Off. Also some Philps units take a very long button press.
