Aloha, my cat trashed my oem for the outlaw 990 preamp/sound processor. Was looking to purchase a URC anyway. Am I correct to assume that discretes would alleviate need to re-purchase the OEM (use discrete codes rather than the learning mode)?

Discrete codes are something different. they provide access to commands and functions some times not easy often not possible with OEM remotes.
What you are looking for is a DEVICE FILE. This is a file that has all teh codes you need to control the item. Do a search in the files area of what ever remote it is you intend to purchase.
