Then get a universal learning remote, teach it the commands from your Magnavox tv remote. Use preset codes for all other of your gear.

It's surprising that the standard code set for older Philips TV's doesn't work. Almost every universal remote has that code set, and other Magnavox TV's with "MF" in the model number use that code set.

Since I don't know what universal you tried, I can't be more specific about the setup code number for that code set. I guess it is the universal you got with your cable box. But even the model of the cable box would tell nothing about that. Cable companies are very inconsistent about which universal they give to each customer.

new TV/DVD HD LCD combo.

So we would expect SOME functions to be missing from a Philips TV code set. Maybe that's what you meant in indicating that code set didn't work. But a partially working code set is a big step toward a full solution. If you found some code set in which ANY functions work you should include which code set and which functions in your post.

John no, the new magnavoxes are using a codeset previously unknown to universal remotes. Codesearches using Tivo, Dtv, and ofa remotes have all failed to come up a hit. In the case of the OP, it being a TV/dvd combo, it wouldn't use a tv code anyways, but I doubt searching dvd codes will come up with a code either. Because the magnavoxes are too new.
