depending on your market, this may or may not be a feature that you can use.
Press settings twice, scroll to POwER select "power and Numeric" now in your macro to turn on just enter in "0" this will turn on the box, (follow with a delay and "exit" and the ????? wont show up)
to turn off= press "0 then "power"
works great, been using it for couple years now.

ON= "0"
then delay
then "exit"

Off= "O"
then "power"

This might not be avalible in our market. Hitting setting botton twice brings up settings and then closes it. There is a settings - then an "A" for advance settings. In advance there are power on and off times. I am new to this so mabey I am missing something. I have had luck with all componets except this one. Thanks alot for your help am I doing somethig wrong?
thanks

Thanks........

A year ago, when I posted the same question, I guess my firmware was different, because the answer did not work. Now it does. Not sure why the cable box industry does not include discrete on/off as a standard feature of their units. I guess because the consumers do not ultimately make buying decisions and there is really no competition between brand units for a single cable company application.

(similar to my question I just posted about cd players. Why do many companies, including major ones like denon, etc, still not include even power on/off toggles on their cd changers?)

Most CD Changers are easy to get around anyway because another command serves as an on/off. For example, if you hit play on my Sony the power goes on. Other buttons do this as well.. That being said, you could do the following to mimic discretes:

ON- POWER, PLAY, STOP
OFF - PLAY,DELAY, POWER
