I am heading to a job site and need to see if the codes for the 2807 are the same as the 5803 codes I already have.............Otherwise I needed to see if anyone had the sound fields and speaker selection button already for this unit...........


The denon web site has the 0101010 codes listed and I don't have a lot of time for this upgrade to an old Pronto 6000 .............

I dislike posts that seem to say "research this for me quickly, because I'm in too much of a hurry to do it myself".

Maybe someone with specific knowledge and recollection of the 2807 will see and answer your post soon enough to help you. But I'd bet against it.

Lots of Denon models use the same codes as other Denon models, so you'll probably be OK.

Many posts here (including many written by me) tell you how to read the Denon documentation of IR signals and how to traslate that into Pronto Hex for the documented Denon and Kaseikyo signals. So if you want to be sure before you go to the job site, start reading quickly.

Wow John, thanks for the help(sarcasm)..........As i am on the Job site now and have been running a bit ragged lately......sorry my ask for help reflected a lazy tone

I should have posted as everyone else and just not included the immediate need.....

I have read through many posts by yourself and others and have always searched before asking......

And by the way, searching through the RC conversion posts, I couldn't make heads or tails of the posts being the time constraints as I only had an hour.....

If you could accept my humblest apologies and save the flames, Ill save my incredibly sarcastic and agressive tone that I would normally lash out on such patronizing help as you so offered....

Assuming some of those were mine: If I knew a better way to explain it, I would have explained it better the first time.

If you end up needing to do it over and ask for more help, maybe you can be specific about which part of which previous post you couldn't understand.

Maybe you could post some info on the 2807 (and maybe the 5803) codes, especially URLs to the PDF file(s) you used. I certainly could tell you how well 2807 codes in a PDF file match 5803 codes in a CCF if I had both those files.

If not, maybe you could clean up a quote from the 2807 info a bit longer than "0101010" and a bit cleaner than the run together gibberish most people paste in when copying from Sharp or Denon documentation into a post. That's not as good as a URL to the PDF, but good enough to be more specific in explaining the translation.

I have PDF files already for 3806, 4306, 4320 and 5805. But I have no clue how those devices relate to the two you asked about.

I didn't need to receive an apology, nor am I planning to give one. I think my post included all the actual help that was possible with so little information and so little time. Maybe you would have asked/searched the original question better if you had time to. In that case my comments on your post itself were unnecessary. But I still think they were justified.

John, after finally finishing at a normal time today I can give you the details to hopefully help my to find out the conversion of these codes..........

I was on www.usa.denon.com and I was under the 2807 receiver codes located here

These are the codes that I want to learn how to convert into HEX and when reading your posts about the RC codes taking it backwards and coverting it to device # function # made my head spin...........

The 5803 sound field codes worked fine and I panicked due to stress and a manipulative customer who always asks for more and more every time I show up and doesnt want to pay....

These posts touch on how but what besides MAKE HEX, what programs should I get to start the learning process..........

But I can read enough to see that it has the same overal structure as other recent Denon files. There is a section for signals using Denon's version of the Sharp IR protocol and another section for signals using Denon's version of the Kaseikyo IR protocol.

MakeHex does most of the job. You may need to convert some function numbers between decimal and hex (not sure till I can read that pdf better) for which you'll want Windows calculator in view/scientific mode.

For Denon/Sharp protocol and most others you would probably want IrPanels, because it is easier to get a bunch of signals from a CCF file than by edit/copy/paste from the .hex file.

But IrPanels only deals with the function number range 0..255. Denon/Kaseikyo signals tend to have larger function numbers. MakeHex could be used in ways that remap the range of function numbers. But that adds enough extra confusion it negates the benefits of using IrPanels.

That one is certainly about the same type of Denon Kaseikyo signals as the Kaseikyo portion of your pdf. But on quick skim through it I see mainly comments about earlier threads rather than explantions. It implies the explantions are in earlier threads, though it might add some.


That has some MakeHex basics. But the readme file included in makehex.zip has better makehex basics.

I don't think the problem will be makehex basics. The problem will be digging out the device numbers and function numbers from Denon's documentation. There have been several threads on that, some on the Denon/Sharp protocol and some on the Denon/Kaseikyo protocol.

I'll try to dig up some better info after I figure out how to read that pdf.

Adobe Reader is both telling me I need to reinstall and telling me I can't reinstall.

It required me to install an update for a Japanese Font and then the numbers showed up...............I was skeptical when adobe wants to install any other language than english, but it worked...........Ill start reading the Make Hex read me file and make sure to reread to get some basics...........

I had to entirely delete Adobe and reinstall. Then the next time I opened a Denon pdf file it asked if I wanted the Japanese Font update and installed it. Earlier it said I needed that but wouldn't let me install it.

Anyway, now that I can read the file, I see that the "No." column in the Kaseikyo section gives the function number. The older pdf files I have from Denon don't have that, and translating the binary "Data" section to get the function number was a tedious process.

In this file you can ignore all the binary info (those 1's and 0's that take up most of the space) except for the GENRE2 field (which is pretty easy because it has only 3 different values).

Denon's GENRE2 is the number MakeHex calls "subdevice". It is the number after the "." in the IRP file's device line. It is in backwards binary, so the three values Denon uses are
1 0 0 0 --> 1
1 1 0 0 --> 3
1 0 1 0 --> 5

Denon's GENRE1 is the number MakeHex calls "device". It is the number before the "." in the IRP file's device line. It is also in backwards binary:
0 0 1 0 --> 4
But there is only that one value, and the PDF file tells you that this 0010 means 4.

You'll need the Denon-K.irp file (for Denon's version of Kaseikyo). I think I forgot to added that to the official makeHex.zip, but I did include that in the previous thread on these codes. I'll try to find time later today or tomorrow to update makehex.zip.

To get this documented set of Denon Kaseikyo signals, you'll need to use MakeHex three times, once for device 4.1, once for device 4.3, and once for device 4.5
You should edit the function= line in the irp file for the desired range of functions. After each run of MakeHex, edit the Denon-K.hex file to find and copy the desired Pronto Hex strings. For device=4.1 the function numbers are scattered across the range 153 through 820, so it will be a big .hex file.

BTW, unless you say otherwise I'll assume it is the Denon Kaseikyo signals you want and you already have the Denon/Sharp signals documented in the pdf because those are the same as from other Denon remotes.

Hey guys. Sorry to interrupt your thread. I'm a new promto owner (less than a week) and a devoted Denon fan and have been surfing the site for info. I own the 2807 as well. I've been following your thread (or at least trying too...lol) so please exuce me if I'm WAY of base here. I found a Denon IR Program named "IR code generator" here on RC. It's in the Utilities and Documentation section of the TSU7000 files. You probably are already aware of it...but I just wanted to throw that out there. Hopping it might help.....I personally have no idea as how to use it as of yet....but I'm tinkering. Looking forward to be able to "speak your language" as soon as I can.

I think I know what program you mean. If so, it generates Pronto Hex for the Denon / Sharp protocol. IIRC, to use it you type in the binary values from the Sharp or Denon documentation.

You may find it easier to use that for the Denon / Sharp commands in this pdf file. Using MakeHex for those requires doing a little math to add the "extension" value to the function number.

But I'm still assuming the interesting part of that pdf is the Denon Kasiekyo signals. I'm pretty sure that program you found doesn't do Kaseikyo protocol, just Sharp protocol.

Aaaaah....ok?!...I guess!?! Kinda "greek to me". I'm about halfway through the pronto tsu7000 software help guide and it only mentions "hex" once and doesn't mention "makehex" at all. I plan on ripping through as many posts here on RC as pssible to learn as much as I can, but I'm hopping to find a more comprehensive and easy to undersatnd manual/guide to the pronto edit software. I have seen the "Ultimate Pronto Guide" advertised by Remote Quest here on RC, and I'm thinking it my be a wise purchase. By any chance would you recomend this guide and/or any other material so I can a grip on what you're telling me? I apologize in advance for the novice inquery, but I guess you gotta start somewhere.

Just in case this question has not been fully answered.... Yes, the 5803 codes (as well as the 4306 codes and I assume the 4806) will work for the 2807. The Zone 3, Zone 4, and Aux/Net/USB are obviosly not valid for the 2807 but most of the other commands are the same. In addition, the 2807 has a few Kaseikyo codes that are not listed on the other models. They are listed on the 2807 PDF as No. 550,552,554 (speaker selector controls) and No. 96-105 (XM channel inputs). I have myself just recently come up to speed on creating Pronto Hex codes from the Sharp format thanks to assistance from johnsfine and others (thank you) but I have yet to carve the time out of my own hectic installation schedule to assimilate creating them from the kaseikyo format. I will get around to it but if someone has already converted the codes I listed above, I would love to check them out. I can post more info on the codes if someone does not have the Denon PDF.

I don't have a decent understanding of what "Zone" means to these devices. I would have expected more commands to be in common across zones. A few commands seem to be, but most commands are documented for only one zone.

Commands 96-105 are documented only for Zone 3. Commands 550-554 are documented only for Zone 1. Is that inherent in the meanings of the commands? What happens if you give a command for a different zone than it was documented for?

Regarding the term "Zone" as it refers to Denon receivers. Each zone is a independent stereo preamp (and sometimes speaker level) output for audio distribution with its own power, source selection and volume/mute commands. Some units have only two zones and others have three or four. The 5805 posseses additional zone 2 setting commands because it can run a sepatate multi-channel home theater.

Where this gets a bit confusing is that some of the commands in the kaseikyo format are supposedly not zone specific despite the fact that they possess a Genre2 code that would suggest otherwise.. They deal largely with shuttle control and navigation of the newer iPod, Network, USB and XM radio features. The unfortunate reality is that they are married to zone 1. For example, this would mean that if you were listening to a network audio playlist from you computer hard drive in zone 3 using an AVR 4306, you would not be able to control the features of the network audio (presets, track advance, etc...) unless zone 1 is on. If zone 1 is off ,control of the features for iPod, Network audio, USB audio and XM radio are disabled. This effectively renders these features useless when using the piece as a distributed audio hub. Denon did make a feable attempt to provide a few control options for these features independent of the power status of zone 1 by allowing the user to "reassign" in the setup menu the tuner preset bank "G1 through G8" for iPod/Network/USB play and pause controls. I gave Denon and earful at Cedia regarding this issue!

So....... You are mostly correct in your assumption about the Genre2 code:

1000 = zone 1
1100 = zone 2
1010 = zone 3 (3806, 4306, 4806, 5805 only)
1110 = zone 4 (5805 only)

You will find many more codes for zone 1 because the iPod/Network/USB control features are linked to zone 1.

The other zones are largely relegated to power, source and volume commands.

The 5805 has many additional zone 2 codes for multi channel settings. The same settings for zone 1 are in the sharp format.

The codes No.96-105 for the AVR2807 that I had requested in my last post are for XM channel input numbers 0-9. They do not appear to be zone specific as documented by Denon despite the Genre2 1010 designation which would indicate zone 3. I suspect that they are likely married to zone 1.

My theory here is that Denon started with good intentions of organization but will slowly confuse the situation as they add more features to their line.
