I have a project where I'm designing a crestron touchpanel allowing a user to press a button selecting one of ten dvds. We spec'ed a Sony DVP-CX995V 400 disc explorer to do the job (sony jumps from 5 disc dvds to 400 disc dvd changers).

The problem I'm running into is that all of the disc changing is done through an on screen "disc explorer" or a knob on the front of the changer. There is no button on the remote or anywhere I can find that will allow me to simulate button presses of (for example):

[disc] then [3] then [enter]

there is only a disc skip button, which would not allow me to discretely jump from one disc to another. We've also looked at the Sony DVP-NC85VB 5-disc changer, which has disc 1 - 5 buttons on the front, but not on the remote.

So what I'm wondering: does anyone have a "disc" discrete code for either of these players, or alternatively a "disc 1", "disc 2", etc for the 5 disc player?

If not, does anyone know of a player that would allow me to do such a thing?

Thanks,
Jeremy

You can try the DISC command from another sony DVD remote. It is possible this unit will respond to it even though the button isn't on the factory remote.

If that doesn't work it is possible to do via rs-232 but I don't have the documentation with me, I can look it up and post it in a few days. It is possible because it can be done with an Escient DVD manager via RS-232.

and those who don't!

the only sony remote I can find with a "disc" code is from a cd changer, and that code does not work. The 400 disc changer does not have an rs-232 port.

I think my design dept has found a panasonic 5 disc changer with discrete disc change buttons on the remote.

thanks

I have the same Sony model DVD jukebox. You can select a disk in another way. I am at work so I go by memory here. First, with the switch on the remote set to "DVD" you hit "display" and at the top you see the current disc number. Hit "enter" and this number goes away, then type in the number of the disc you want, and hit "enter" again. The disk will play. You then have to hit "display" again to turn off that menu. I used this sequence of buttons to program my harmony 659 remote.

You can create a stepper as a work-around to directly access a disc:

1. Display
2. .5s delay
3. 'Right' cursor.

This stepper is activated using a button on your touchpanel that is labeled 'Disc'.

Now, press the disc button, wait a second for the stepper to run, then enter your disc number.

I used this successfully with a DVP-CX850D
Good luck.

The sequence I use for my Sony DVP-CX985V changers is ...

Stop
Display
Enter
Numberical Entry (Slot Number)
Enter
Display

The stop action at the beginning of this sequence is to ensure that a disc is not currently playing. This in turn ensures that only one display command is needed to clear the screen at the end of the sequence. If a disc is already playing in the 985 when entering the display menu there are actually two display menus available, hence two display commands would be needed to clear the screen.

I know this thread is old, but for anybody wondering-

The Sony Dvp-nc85h uses the same discrete disc codes as a Sony CD changer.

My mx-500 learned them from a OFA remote.
