I have a Zenith close to that model and need the on/off descrete also. I have a One For All remote (URC-8811). Any help would be appreciated.

I found the the descrete code for the Zenith VCR if it can help anybody.

Device code: 0039
Descrete on: 125
Descrete off: 221

Mike,

What OFA setup code works with your TV? It is doubtful that the Zenith TV's respond to discrete power commands. The setup code will confirm what IR protocol it uses.

Jon,

The Zenith setup code: 0017 for the OFA seems to control every aspect of my TV. It is a Zenith model number: SY2551S I believe. As chance would have it, my TiVo remote control has a descrete for selecting the TV's input (that I have learned to my OFA). I don't see why power on and power off would not be possible also. But who knows with Zenith. Thanks for your help, Mike

Mike,

If you search the OFA archives you will find the posts from 2 years ago or so where Rob Crowe (of www.hifi-remote.com fame) decoded the Zenith protocol and then deduced the discrete commands for the VCR. The short summary is that the VCR uses a 7-bit command and the TV uses a 5-bit command. The discrete code uses the extra two bits that the VCR has. And IIRC several people tried without success, those commands modified for the signal characteristic of the TV. At the time I believe that Rob also decoded all the Pronto.ccf files for Zenith TV's

If you have a JP1 cable, send me or post the file saved from IR and I will decode the learned command to see if it will bring fresh insight. Other than that, since I don't have any Zenith equipment, I don't know how else to proceed.

Hopefully, someone will come forward that has a definitive answer.

-Jon
