OK I am a complete novice in this department so bear with me! I have a Wurlitzer 1015 One More Time Jukebox (the kind you will see in a bar) which has a remote control as an optional extra. Basically the remote controls the volume and track selection however it costs in excess of US$250! I think that is kind of steep for such a remote and was wondering whether a computer programmable remote could do the job? If it can what kind of information do I need? (I have the full manual including technical diagrams for the jukebox). Can anyone help? Also apologies if this is the wrong forum - I was not sure which one to put it in!

Those use the RC5 Protocol, device (aka system address)=5

Commands 1 - 9 are numerals 1 through 9 (I assume 0 is numeral 0)
33=Reset (Ch-)
44=Blank (N/A)
32=Cancel (ch+)
13=Mute
16=Vol+
17=Vol-

Most of these commands are in many "One For All" remotes as setup code VCR/0081.

WalMart sells a remote as an URC-8810w, that has that setup code and Radio Shack is discounting the RS-15-1997 for $15 if you can find one that has that setup code.

The keys are the same except for the ones in hte parenthesis. Blank is not on any key AFAIK.

I can't guarantee that this command set works for your model, but it doesn't cost very much to find out.

If you have any universal remote you might try a Philips VCR code. That's what it apparently responds to.

If the URC-8810w has the right setup code then the URC-6012w also does.

In other situations, the 8810w has a number of advantages over the 6012w, but nothing in what Jon said above indicates any of those advantages matter in this case.

The 6012w costs less. It has been consistently in stock at every Walmart I've visited, while the 8810w is frequently out of stock and I think some Walmarts don't carry it at all. The 6012w is also smaller (easier to operate one handed).

Guys thanks for the swift response its much appreciated - and yes you are right taking a gamble on a 15 dollar "One for all" remote is way better than forking out $250!! I live in Malaysia but I am sure I can either get it here or shipped across. I actually have a cheapo universal remote which I use for a no name TV I have thats remote control stopped functioning so I can try that initially! Many thanks again.

Those specific model numbers were for WalMart only and probably USA WalMart only. The 8810w is called the 8811 if you buy it elsewhere. Other than WalMart, I think Rob has the best price. He ships to many countries, but you'll have to ask him specifics:

The 6012w has a few model numbers, all 601x. There is also a another model with 801x model numbers (URC-8011 for most mail order, URC-8017 retail in Canada, etc.) that is just like the 601x models but with two extra device buttons.

All those (601x, 801x and 881x) have the same set of built-in codes. I'm not sure what other lines have the specific setup code Jon suggested. I don't know whether a discounted, discontinued Radio Shack model is something you have any chance of finding locally. Other than a discount like that, the 601x models are the only ones you're likely to find under $20 shipped. Though there's plenty you can find well under that $250 robbery.

Yes As soon as I saw the price for the remote ($250) I knew it had to be a rip off for the features it offered. I am already doing research into it - there are quite a few places online that will do the shipping from the US to here for that model. My wife is currently in the UK and according to the one for all website several retailers stock their products - just a case of finding one that stocks this model I guess if not then I will use Rob!

I emailed Rob and he recommended a URC6131 over the URC6011 does anyone know if this model has exactly the same codes? He has no stock of the 8011.

The 6131 has the same VCR/0081 setup code that the 6011, 8011 and 8811 have. That seems to be what you need, so the 6131 is a good choice.

The 6131 does not have the same full library of codes as those other three. Depending on what other devices you may want to control, the library of built-in codes in the 6131 might be either better or worse.

The other thing we should mention is that Rob also sells a modified version of the 6131 that is JP1 compatible. JP1 allows a wide variety of device upgrades and you can control all of your AV equipment with it. More about JP1 at:

If you think you will want to control other equipment then you may want to consider the 6131M and a JP1 cable.

Just to bring closure to the thread I ordered 2 of the 6131's from Rob and he will be putiing in the code you provided a link for so hopefully it will work.

You don't need a 6131, and they are very obsolete at this point.  Most cable remotes made by UEI will work using Video 0081 (20081 for remotes using 5 digit setup codes).  For example, the $6 Comcast 3DVR remote will operate most functions out of the box, and we can tell you how to customize other buttons to do the rest of the functions.  Or, if you have or prefer another remote made by UEI, tell us the model and we'll probably be able to tell you if it is programmable.

Get a OARUSB04G  (Amazon or eBay), and use setup code DVD 0081.  If you have any trouble, post at [Link: hifi-remote.com]
If necessary, the OARUSB04G can be programmed using the included microUSB cable.
