I am very disappointed to find that my new 24" Toshiba flat screen is a TOAD. Work-arounds for the input selects seem to be easy enough, but does anyone know a work-around for discrete power on?

As suggested in other threads here, I have tried POWER + various delays + POWER, but I can't get anything reliable. This may work for the rear-pro TV's, but the smaller flat screen tube responds too quickly for this trick to work. Are there other suggestions out there I missed?

Many thanks,
Bruce Morris

How did you program the video inputs to work?

The problem with a TOAD device is that you don't know what state it is in when you want to execute a macro. The trick is to get the device to a known state first.

For input selects on the Toshiba, this is relatively simple. The channel up or down button will always change the TV to the antenna input, thus giving you a known state. So, to fake a discrete for the Video 2 input, you would program channel-up, TV/VCR, TV/VCR.

My understanding is that this trick will work on other TV's as well. And thanks to the great info in this forum which is where I got the idea.

Still looking for a fake discrete "on" code... (sob).

tRY HOOKING THE POWER PLUG FROM THE TV TO THE SWITCHED POWER OUT OF YOUR RECEIVER ,TURN ON THE STEREO THEN TURN ON THE TV . WHEN YOU SWITCH OFF THE RECEIVER THE TV WILL TURN OFF . WHEN YOU TURN ON THE STEREO THE TV WILL FOLLOW . WHEN ITS TURNED ON THE TV WILL TURN ON .
TRY IT IT WORKS . JUST MAKE SURE YOUR STEREO CAN HANDLE THE DRAW FROM THE TV .

Thanks for the suggestion to plug the TV into the switched power outlet. Duh, why didn't I think of that? Unfortunately, the power requirement for the TV is too high for the switched outlet on the receiver.

Any other ideas out there? Again - looking for a fake discrete sequence for a Toshiba TV.

Thanks again
