I have a Hughes HTL-HD HD-OTA/HDSAT receiver, which is functionally similar to the LG LSS-3200A and the Sony HD-300, all of which are manufactured by LG. I've seen discrete codes for power on & off and mode selection (variable-1, variable-2, native, 1080i, etc.) posted for the LG LSS-3200A, and I was wondering whether anyone has either found similar codes for the Hughes HTL-HD or has figured out how to modify the hex code of the LG codes to come up with Hughes versions. Various searches have indicated that the previous Hughes-manufactured boxes did not have discrete power on & off, but it seems like the new box made by LG might be capable since there are codes for both the LG LSS-3200A and the Sony HD-300.

I am currently using an MX-700 remote, but I also have a Pronto and am reasonably familiar with both MX Editor and Pronto Edit.

Thanks in advance for any help. And yes, I've already tried the LG power on & off codes, and they don't work, which is a good thing since I also have an LG LST-3510A HDTV/DVD player that does respond to the LSS-3200A's discrete power on & off codes.

I don't have the answer yet but it appears that each unit (LG, Sony and Hughes) has a different IR command set. "Chuck IV" is in the process of testing all 256 commands in this thread [Link: host79.ipowerweb.com] over at the JP1 forum. You might contact him and offer to help since it is a tedious process.

You can use John Fine's MakeHex and edit NEC.irp and change Device=247 save and drag and drop the edited NEC.irp onto MakeHex.exe in Windows (not Internet) Explorer and it will instantly create a file Nec.hex that will have all 256 commands. Use IR Panels to create a ccf file. What MakeHex calls Function number is what the JP1 people call OBC.

Both MakeHex and IR Panels are in the files section under Pronto and user created programs or something like that.

Hi JFR,
I have been doing some light testing with a code setup Jon created for me, to test all 256 commands. So far, I have been thru 3 sets of codes(I believe he has 6 or 7 sets to make up the 256) and I have found a service menu, test menu and 1 command that forces the HTL-HD's DVI connection into 720p mode. Unfortunately, I could not get it out of 720p mode and had to do a NVRam dump(via a previously found service menu), then have Directv(Pegasus) rehit my box to get my locals to show up again. At that point I packed it in for the night.

I will try again soon, but it probably won't be till after Christmas, as I have family coming in.

Head over to [Link: hifi-remote.com] and send me(Chuck_IV) a PM with your email and we can get together on where we stand.

OK, Chuck & Jon. Thanks very much. I probably won't have the chance to do much until after Christmas myself, but I'll try then to see if I can figure out how to follow Jon's instructions.
