Holy Shit i cannot believe this, i am currently in the middle of an internet blackmail situation.

Customer found me on angies list, performed services and to quote the customer "wow what an amazing job" two weeks later i get an email from him saying he is frustrated because his rear speakers are not playing loud enough. i explained to him about surround sound but offered to swing by the next time Im in the area to turn them up, Against my recommendations of course.

He is fine with that, we meet again im there for 30 minutes. 5 minutes to turn up the rears and 25 minutes shooting the breeze and he complimented me again on the excellent service and awesome installation.

I get an email over the weekend saying that unless I come back, upgrade his receiver to a better one free of charge he will post negative reviews on every review site he can, including angies list & Google etc. I respond in a professional maner, he replied i have "one week to comply or else." i respond to that saying that this is obsurd etc. to add insult to injury HE SUPPLIED THE AVR. Short of LMAOSMFH im really annoyed that someone can be so childish

im keeping any and all communications from this asshole for future things incase I need to get my lawyer involved.

I am also dealing with a B!tch that gave us a review on angies list that flat out LIED and made up just about everything she could because I called her up and had to reschedule the appointment due to a contract with a commercial client.

In this age of review sites what can WE do to protect ourselves from these assholes? its too easy now to totally trash a company without having anything behind it. UGHHHH

Un F#$*&@G Believable, hell will freeze over before I give into someone like this, this is so childish its not even funny.

LOL..... Jay and Silent Bob came to mind while reading your post. They got the names of everyone who posted crap about the movie on the internet and went to each of their homes and kicked their a$$e$! Funny stuff right there. That is what we should do.

Haven't dealt with Angie's List before. Perhaps you can forward them all the communications with an explanation now. I would think they wish to protect everyone involved and keep this jackass off their site. Last I checked, extortion in any form is illegal. Do not communicate with him by phone. ONLY by email from now on.

Have your lawyer write a Cease and Desist order on his letter head threatening him with legal action for blackmail and Defamation of Character. Then send him a bill for your lawyer's time. I'd also report him to the police and Better Business Bureau just for good measure. The BBB report is to help others that might get the same sh!t from this turd.

great idea, ill call angies list in the AM. ive refused to take any calls for this reason. I know its just a "rating" but who knows what this jerk off will write about. i can see a line in the review, "brendon, the companies owner kept staring at my wife and kept running to the bathroom" (hes not even married BTW, i can see why; hes bat shit crazy)

Do you guys think i should get my lawyer involved now, maybe he can slap him with a "legal" letter to scare him. I know what this guy is doing, taking advantage of a small business in the hopes that we will just cave in and give them what they want..AINT HAPPENING

I don't know much about companies like this but it might be worth looking into.

www.reputation.com

I've always found sites like Angie's List, Yelp, even the BBB to be complete B.S. They're nothing but paid advertisements.

I really wish there was a site for trades like us to report our customers (both good and bad.) You, me, Joe the plumber etc. can check out a customer before we commit to them. Turning the tables and covering our asses.

Lastly, we set our systems in all ch stereo by default..... Give the people what they want!

+1 on notifying Angie's List. They take that stuff seriously. Good on you for keeping the emails. I'd probably want to show them to a lawyer and get their opinion. That is an out and out shake down. I'm stunned. And I imagine that a Cease and Desist letter on a law firms letterhead would go a long way towards silencing this idiot. But if he trashes you, I'd be prepared to go after him. Your good name is worth too much not to. Do you have pictures of the job?

That's the problem with websites like Angie's. Anybody can say anything and you might not even know it until damage has been done. If you advertised on Angie's list I'll bet those type of reviews aren't so easy to put up.

The thing about the AVR is f&*cking hilarious! If he doesn't like his car do you have to buy him a new one as well?

Yes, you should call you lawyer right away. The key is to get in front of this before he posts anything. Otherwise, once it's on the Internet it's next to impossible to put the genie back in the bottle. Sites get linked, quoted and cached all over the place so even if you somehow manage to get all of his posts edited/deleted they can still turn up in searches, etc.

Just send him a note saying "I know where you live"......and that will fix that. Jokin of course.

Angieslist will handle him.

Google allows you to respond so ignore his ignorance.

Do not respond to him in any way shape or form from here on out. Have your attorney send him a letter. The worst thing you can do is get this guy posting bad reviews about you allover the internet.

Setup google alerts for your name and company name and respond to anything he posts about you with the full story and leave out any emotion. Just the facts.

People who read reviews will figure him out pretty quick.

There is also the issue of slander. If you loose business, or potential business because of this, you would probably have grounds to sue. Call the lawyer ASAP, protect yourself.

Good luck.

In the meantime, can you shut down his Internet so he can't post about you:)
