I may be late to the game on this one but maybe someone doesnt know yet.

Installed a 2809CI today (this is probably the 3 or 4th 09 series I have installed) and decided to try turning the amp on with the input command since our macros were around 8-9 seconds. Guess what..... it worked! The input command issues an ON and correct input after the proper delay period, almost like it stores the command until the unit is ready.

Our macros are now down to less about 2 seconds, which means the macro takes less than half the time the HDMI input on the Elite takes to start or sync to the new input. No worries about the client pressing any buttons too early or adding page animations.

Its faster and more reliable!

Its a beautiful thing!

It is a nice feature to have. Old Sony receivers supported this, and it was rather convenient. These days I like Marantz, but while they don't support on-to-input they do have a very short delay after powering on before they'll accept an input command.

This was an RTI system so all codes were stored in the processor but if it was a URC remote this would be even more important since you could simply repeat the input command to account for frequent interference.

It is huge!

Yep... combination power on/input is the BEST and it truly makes for an efficiently running macro.

I'm sure some us remember that on those good ole' RCA televisions, you could set up "auto tuning" in the menu. Then, you could learn the mode keys from the top row of the RCA remote into your program and put them in your macros. (ON, then straight to the input!)

So RCA is the only brand I know of that ever did this with with their displays. Isn't it ironic that such a cheaply made and inexpensive brand could be so installer friendly?

Does it still drop the audio if the same source command is issued?

What about a disruption in the HDMI sync or component video dropout that always pissed me off when switching inputs? Is this still there?

Audio drop out still happens... as far as I know all the '09 receivers now support power on on input select. I think Denon even issued a firmware update for some of the 08 CI models that includes this as well.

Service issues are rare, input settings can be locked and the dynamic volume settings have three modes - daytime, evening and midnight. The midnight setting sounds highly compressed but the evening mode helps fend off extreme volume variances between programs.

Come on back.

What does that mean "input settings can be locked" is that a way to not lose sync if the selected input is selected again?
