Hello Everyone,

Hopefully someone can help me out with this. I have an MX-950, one 42" Panasonic 42PZ77U Plasma and one 32" Panasonic 32LX700 LCD in the same room. Unfortunately they use the same or similar codes so power one up and they both turn on, volume, etc. None of the other models I have tried on the URC/MX-950 software will work just one without the other. In saying that I was able to get into the service menu on the 32" and change the rm-set code from A to B so I'm 50% there. Now my 42" plasma works fine but nothing from my MX-950 (or the original remote) will work with the 32". How do I change the original 32" Panasonic remote (or the MX-950 if possible) to Code B to match the change I made to the TV?

Panasonic support is of no use as they state all their Viera TV remotes are universal and cannot be changed from CODE A to CODE B. If that is true then why make it an option in the service menu??

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.
My HT setup.. Priceless!
My bank account... ZERO!
PS. I like URC remotes!

I do have an MRF-350 in the other room controlling my AV Equipment but was trying to avoid running an IR eye all the way back to my TV. I just don't get how they can have 2 codes on the TV to allow for 2 different remote signals (to avoid interference) but not allow the remote to change codes to match up.

Gotta love the service menu, great stuff.

Panasonic is a mass quantity product, not really a tweaker product. That said, I harbor major angst towards Panasonic from all of their fantastic products over the years (no discretes, failures etc) I'm sure if the tech support person got a nickel for every "how come your product wasn't designed to do this", they could buy a gallon of gas.

I would do IR routing with a Harmony remote;-)

Reality calling EZ44, are you there?
As others have said, this is a TV that was built to roll out of a warehouse club on a flat cart, not to be custom installed. Maybe you should move to China with your engineering skills and set them straight. :-) Just route the IR and get over it.

What commands do you need on the 37"?

Will you be using a universal remote like the mx-950?

The "PH" pro series Pany panels can be set to something like 99 different code sets, their remotes can be set to these same codes with a few keystrokes.

I would bet at least some of the codes you need could be "learned" out of the PH remote. It will be time consuming, but might be worth it.

You also might want to try other software, RTI maybe? There's a bunch of "mystery" codes that might work. You would need an RTI remote to download the codes and test on the TV. You can then "learn" them into a universal remote.

Either way, you need to use a universal remote to control the two TV's. It would be time consuming at best, but anything to avoid putting a mouse eye on a TV or cracking open a TV case.

I think the only correct way to do this is to assign different IR Outs, and that is of course if you correctly ran a cat five to every location?

If running cat 5 is to big of a hassel, pick up a pair or MRF260's and set them to different ID's, and address your tv's that way (and don't forget to turn the remotes to RF only)...problem solved for $300 plus the time to do some reprogramming.

I'd go to page 37 in the manual and assume for a moment that those instructions for finding a code also work with the TV button pressed, not just with the other buttons pressed. Then find a code that works the 32." If, along the way, the remote becomes unable to operate the other TV, you can then call Panasonic and tell them that, sorry, but the remote CAN be changed, so now you need to talk to someone who knows how to change it to operate the second set of TV commands. After all, if it can't be changed, then how come it doesn't control the first set any more?

Other than that, you'll have to consult a service manual, and I have no idea how you might do that.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Depending on the amount of money you have invested and dont mind taking a minor hit to the profit you could also use 2 more mrf350's or even 300's. I have had to do this before, set the remote to be rf only for the televisions and 1 TV on a base station set to ID3 and the other set to ID7 as an example.
I just came back and looked at this post again... Sorry Eastside I didnt see you had already put up this solution.
